I've noticed over the past couple of weeks some threads have been getting quite personal between some members, and there have been cross thread arguments too.

This is a discussion forum, it would be pretty damn boring if everyone agreed with each other, but surely people can disagree without getting personal and calling each other names?

The football thread was closed recently for this reason, despite my asking people to calm down, they didn't, and I have been close to closing others the past week, but I'm aware by doing that, its stopping other members participating, so isn't something I want to do.

However, I'm not going to allow arguments to get personal like they are. If you want an argument like that take it to PM or email, or exchange numbers and give each other a ring, but keep it off th forum.

Forgetting everything else, it doesn't do the forum any good. Surely the more people we have posting the better enjoyment everyone gets from the place. More members, more posts, more discussion, more enjoyment. It is increasing hard to attract new members, especially in these times where social media have all but killed most forums.

I think we do extremely well in today's climate. You just have to look at other racing forums to see how dead they are, whereas our traffic goes up year on year. We get a lot of guests viewing the forum, and it would be good if they joined, but I wouldn't join a forum where the impression given is one of petty arguments and bickering.

We do have a points system here for rule breaches, hopefully I don't have to use it, but I will if people don't calm down a bit.

Rant over :)
