I sincerely hope you didn't get caught 'entertaining yourself' on the clinic's CCTV, Miss Trudles. Not unless you're planning to sell the result on the VetPorn site as pay-per-view? And let OTB have first dibs, of course...

here is a question to keep you occupied...

who won the FA Cup in 1906?

;)

ok...

anyone ELSE got any ideas what I can get up to??!!!

(thanks anyway - is the answer that there wasnt one or something??)

You've done incredibly well, even with three of your five young men assisting!

I'll let you play with the others you're not sure about - pretty much bang on with where you're sure. Yes, Bulawayo is in Zimbabwe and means 'place of slaughter', so no change there, then.

I'll give you chaco (sorry, I mis-spelled it, so that's not fair on you) and scops - they are tiny owls. Chaco comes from S. America and Scops from Asia and I saw both types today at the owl display at Lingfield! Got to stroke tiny little Cornelius, the Scops - he is so weeny! And also on display was a black eagle, which had been hand-reared and given to the bird sanctuary after he demolished a lot of one of his several owners' face! He's now nicely settled and posed sweetly on the arms of various members of staff.

I'm off to watch some rubbish until I snore aslump, so I'll see how you've done by tomorrow. I expect full marks at this rate, smarty-pantaloons! xx

ok.... first and/or second world war years for the Derby not being run?

wouldnt have got the owls in a million years - sound very cute !!! Not sure the eagle sounds cute though....

not at all sure about this villein at all - but if im pretty much right about a serf - is a villein someone who isnt quite so servanty??

and the spiders - i dont know about at all, but with a grand name like that, they are destined to be bog standard garden ones or something?? I know I wont want to go near them, but thats it !!! :)

Good shout with the spiders, Troods! They are indeed quite common - they're the nice fat roundy ones called 'orb web' weavers, beloved on sheds and greenhouses.

Hope ColicWatch is going well and the wee pony is much better this morning.

When you come back on I'll give you another few hours to complete the rest. I'm only sorry I couldn't have challenged your leedle grey cells rather better! Yes, villeins were above serfs, who were the lowest form of manorial servant, a mere tiller of fields. Villeins were eventually allowed to even own a strip or two for their own use. So indeed 'not so servanty'!

I think you can use Google now to finish them off - you've done most of them totally right and I will award you your Star Prize when you've completed the last couple... ooh, what can it be? A tasteful selection from Ann Summers/Victoria's Secret? A romantic dinner for three plus midnight boat cruise aboard The Troilist? A week in Barbados, including racing at Garrison Savannah? 75 tickets to Kempton, midweek?

Colic Watch was successful - I left her this morning allowed to eat tiny amounts of grass and soaked pony nuts every two hours, so hopefully shes over the main hurdles - though the starting to eat and can she cope without colicing again is the next one. Nowhere near out of the woods yet, but definately theres a tiny chink of light...

right - google is my friend.... the Saltimbocca is veal (sounds yum, but only if its rose veal!!) but I cant see any year that the derby wasnt run?? How many others have I not got?? (and which ones!)

'Saltimbocca' is Italian for 'jump in(to) the mouth' - meaning it's so delicious it justs wants to be eaten. Not something I imagine the unhappy crated veal calves of Italy would agree with, but that's what it means.

Aha, the Derby - could there be a trick question in there?

Okay, you're only out on the orca, hammerhead, etc. question, and also on the acai, goji, etc. one.

The Battle of Rorke's Drift did take place in Africa - South Africa, so that's correct. Everything else is safe.

ok - is it the orca cos thats a whale??

and filbert, cos hes a nut :)

there was a winner of the Derby called "the flying dutchman" 1849 - is it something cryptic about him flying??!! or there was a flying fox in there somewhere too - and Airbourne...

other than them, Im stumped.

Darn it - was so looking forward to the night at Kempton.... ;)

Yayyyy! You win the 75 tickets to Kempton!!

There wasn't any break to running the Derby - it was just NH that was put on the back boiler during WWII for a couple of seasons. The only trick Q in the lot!

Is Gearoid free this evening? Or OTB? (Okay, not free, but reasonable.)

Failing which, Roly Poly Bloody Monsters on Bubblebox (if you have access to the net during your vigil).

Got to go, the Dougal Bug(ger) has just arrived with a mouthful of something feathery!!
