Going by experience, unlikely - it’s not the most common injury but he’ll likely be ok to be an ornament or a hack for someone. You can operate, but it’s quite a long shot for it to stay repaired. My old bosses polo pony lived for a good few years happily though ( retired, but still able to live normally) it was just a bit dramatic when it slipped, but always was put backable - hopefully it will be the same for him.
