I've just realised that I have everything ready for my sons french trip monday week except his spending money in Euros :shy:

Where is the easiest place to change approx £50?

Banks, some travel agents, the Post Office and Marks and Spencer will all be able to provide you with some euros.

If you bank with a decent sized bank, the answer is yes. And as is said, also post offices, which will serve you with everything now, including home and car insurances.

Don't you have the little exhange houses on the streets in Great Britain?

Such as Thomas Cook and American Express? These are littered throughout Australia.

Also your bank should be able to exchange the money - just check out the front if they have a board up detailing the exchange rates.

Yes the Post Office need you to order them, but you may be able to do it online.

edited to add the link Post Office They can deliver to your home or you can collect them from the PO.

You could just give him a maestro card or credit card. Euros will just fall out of the ATM when he's in France. It might be handy if he has some emergency that requires a few quid more than expected.

Not that it will matter for £50 but, this 'commission free' is just a con. If you ever have to change a considerable sum don't do it through the banks or post office as the exchange rate will conceal considerable commission. My brother, sister and myself once had to transfer a sizeable amount in Canadian dollars as we were investing in my brother-in-law's new business in Canada. We saved around £500 (as compared to the bank rate) by doing the transfer through some financial mob.

Hadn't thought of that!

I've ordered some Euro's so that I can collect from small local PO tomorrow, apparently most larger branches keep euros there so you don't always have to order them but I guess I would prefer to know that they had them! Thanks Griffin :)

I do have a credit card with about £40 left on it, I don't use it much but I could give him that for an emergency, although what a 15yr old would call an emergency is anyones guess

they are going with three teachers so hopefully nothing will crop up!

The best place to change cash into Euro is at Danny's corner shop down Main St in Gibraltar - he gives a couple of points over the going rate to his favourite customers!! :D

I would recommend using credit card, or getting it in the country, via maestro ("EC-cash"). Its def. cheaper than changing. And thats what I do when I come to your luvly country that does not want my Euro´s ....

Well, that went well... trundled down to my PO this afternoon to arrange a postal order for suny bay's competition prize. Told no, they don't do them for Spain. They do them for other countries, but not Spain. :suspect: Suny, if you read this, you're being sent cash... shrug::
