I want to oppose the top two in the market. Azerbaijan have been drifting as their neighbours gain momentum, whilst the Germans have to pay for their recent stance on the single currency and the perception that they are imposing austerity measures on the rest of the bloc.

Therefore I have backed:

Armenia @ 7/1 E/W Paddys 1/4 1,2,3 - Steamer in the market, hot in the polls
Israel @ 11/1 EW VC 1/4 1,2,3 - Another that is hot in the polls
Turkey @ 12/1 EW SkyBet 1/4 1,2,3,4 - Well tipped and I'll take the extra place
Denmark @ 16/1 EW Boyles 1/4 1,2,3,4 - The best of the Scandinavian bloc and top price even with the extra place.

Bloody network in Australia honestly should show it Thursday and Friday nights, not Friday and Saturday nights. Greece and Iceland were probably the two standouts from the first semi final. I also like Belgium, but too risque for Eurovision.

I have seen Azerbaijan, think she is the pick amongst a "weak" lot for 2010. Though she is absolutely hopeless live.

Are people really going to vote for Germany? Other than of course the western nations?

The only song I've heard other than our own plump little diva, is the Israeli song. The man cannot sing properly and the song is brutal to the extent that I chuckled quietly to myself. I suppose that doesn't preclude it from victory. My last venture into the Eurovision betting market was to lay a crew of unmelodious, loudmouth, facepainted gobshites from Finland getting out of their semi final. Admittedly I quite liked that song in the end.

I've made a pretty penny over the years from Eurovision. I've never listened to a single note (hit or not) of any of the songs before entering the market!

After tonight and watching the second semi final, thought Lithuania and Sweden were robbed. Not sure how anyone could actually enjoy watching whatever the Hell was the Ukrainian song. What a deathly song.

Cyprus, Azerbaijan and Denmark were the most enjoyable. Azerbaijan are still the standout in this year's crop.

My top 5 are: Azerbaijan (1); Denmark (2); Iceland (3); Russia (4); Greece (5).

The roughies are Cyprus, Moldova and Georgia.

Azerbaijan will pick up its votes from the eastern block. I think they are deserving winners after two really strong performances since 2008.

OK, I've had a lot to drink but...

I'm quite stunned at the quality of this year's contest. There are several excellent songs and performances.

I thought it would take a lot to beat Azerbaijan, who opened the event but fair play to so many others for putting up great songs. UK will be about last.

I came online to try and get a decent price about Germany. If it's already number 1 across much of Europe it must be fav but it's only about 5/2 so no value. In fact, the market is dreadful all in all so I'm not having a bet.

Quite liked the French song.

I don't see why so many of the songs are in English. Would be much in the native languages.

Disgrace that Croatia failed to qualify - and the Dutch, who had it down to a T with some good old fashion Eurovision cheese.

Is there any stats out there that suggests winning this in a World Cup year is bad karma for the summer - and finishing last is good?

You must have had a lot to drink :p- the vast majority of songs were unspeakably shit and we deserved to be last - a bad song badly sung.

I think the German girl deserved to win .

Nah...

Germany won because it is already topping the charts across Europe (according to Norton) so it was a very well established song but it was by no means the best.

I was surprised France got so many votes. a) it was sh1t and b ) it was performed by blacks, which I always thought was a big negative in racist Europe.
