Mentioned elsewhere by Slim, a Monsun filly who cost 1.2m euros, makes her debut in a mile maiden at Haydock this afternoon for Haggas.

She won but it was light years away from Oaks-winning form.

All sorts of reasons not to tear up an ante-post slip, though. The race was very slowly-run. It was the slowest of the five on the card over a mile and even after wfa is taken into account it comes out as 18lbs slower than that put up by the 70-rated winner of the 4.30. She was held up, the jockey clearly seeking cover, and it's hard for any horse to win impressively in a race run like that. She'll improve for the run and for the step up in trip - Haggas says she'll go to 10f next.

I liked his quote after the race on RUK: "...when you pay a lot of money for a filly with a beautiful pedigree, the sky's the limit until proven otherwise."

Simon Holt made a case in the Weekender for Haggas being rated the best trainer in the country.

He wouldn't be far wrong.

Yes, I read that. Holt was talking about strike rate and that's significant, of course, though not necessarily decisive. You've only got to look at Charlie Appleby and Saeed bin Suroor to see why it's not the be all and end all.

Haggas is excellent, though. He had a winner at Wolverhampton last night who will be interesting in handicaps. Muzdawaj is very well-bred and his initial mark won't be prohibitive.

I've just watched the replay that race at Wolves, The KA horse in second could be worth following also once he's stepped up in trip, What mark would you expect for those 2?

Off the top of my head, 83 for the winner. The second will need another run to qualify for a rating.

Fadillah is entered at the 5-day stage in a Class 4 12f 3-y-o handicap at York on Friday.

Her initial handicap mark is 76.

It would be an unusual Oaks preparation, to say the least, but Haggas must be sorely tempted. Why else would he make the entry?

Now up to a mark of 79, having won narrowly off 76 at Nottingham in May, Fadillah has her third run at Goodwood tomorrow. It's fair to say that her lowly rating contrasts starkly with her reputation and price tag.

Unlucky Gus-I thought we were looking at a listed filly 2 out.I wouldn't rule out ten pounds of improvement next time out.

Not seen it yet, Luke - I'm chained to my desk at work until 5pm - but that sounds like the story of my life.
