Today is a lot more like it, with a number of competitive races and some decent Cheltenham dodgers on view.

Mullins is having a good week, and I backed his C'est Ca antepost for the Triumph. He looks to have a very winnable opportunity in the juvenile hurdle.

There is a cracking lineup in the 2 mile handicap chase. I fancy Schindler's Hunt of the favourites, but Glenfinn Captain looks on a good mark if he can get back to his novice chasing form.

Definate Spectacle is the value to shake up Psycho.

They seem to have fences in the bumper, but nonetheless I am hopeful that Bolger's yolk will beat those that had a tough race in the Cheltenham Foxhunters.

Glenstal Abbey looks interesting enough in the first. it may be that they are aiming high in the prospect of retaining the maiden status but he looks worth a throwaway bet at any rate.

I'd marginally favour One Cool Cookie in a horrible looking (from a betting perspective) 2 mile handicap. I can't have Masony. I don't know what to make of Schindlers Hunts Cheltenham run, on the face of it it makes him look reasonably well handicapped, but, almost by definition, anything that finished behind him underperformed. Even then I could see him reverting to battling plodder albeit at a faster plod than most of these can manage. If Blueberry Boy held steady in the market i might go for him in a race that it's just too easy to make a case against anything.

I like Jered in the Novice hurdle, but I'm not clanking in on a Meade horse at anywhere near evens for the time being - I wouldn't be inclined to oppose him either.

Much as I hate backing skinny prices in big handicap hurdles or "unlucky" horses running shortly after Cheltenham, I'll make an exception with Psycho. Hard to see him being beaten here.

As a token recovery bet I'd go with Jacquouille in the last. Didn't set the world alight at Leopardstown but maybe Nina will get something closer to his best out of him.

Unlucky Mr Bull. If young Mr Mullins had made a more concerted effort to get out of the trap he put himself in, he would have been a nice enough way clear to avoid going for, and fumbling, race winning leaps at the last two.

Think that is a little unfair Mel. I don’t think the horse was travelling that well, looked to be feeling the ground a bit.…he was doing his best to keep him on the bridle. Just bad look he made a mistake when he did.

I thought he was always travelling well for a horse that was going to see the trip out well. He wanted to go and try and take the race going to three out but was held in by Russell and decided to hold fire until the straight rather than persevering. Granted it was unlucky not to jump the last two cleanly (or land cleanly is probably more correct) but I thought he brought the luck factor into play by getting himself in a mess in the first place. Maybe a little harsh, but the best horse didn't win and the jockey was a contributing factor to that.

I should have known better. I hate aftertiming, so im saying nothing about the winner. Only that it makes me even sicker.

Unlike, Bar The Bull I decided Schindlers Hunt's price was too big and backed him. But not in a single, oh no. Again going against what I said earlier I added in Jered, but was I happy with a double? Bollards I was. Bum.

I only ever do singles, there's no advantage to doing multiples. You can just collect your bundle from the first one and put on whatever you feel comfortable with in the next.

And it's started raining.

too soon after Cheltenham for Psycho no doubt, but must admit I'm feeling sore fingers with that horse for the 3rd time in a row

Good old What Odds, what a reliable bugger

I think Jered could prove to be very good but the race lacked the depth of recent years.

I think it's worth discussing where Schindlers Hunt might have finished in last year's Arkle were it not for that clerical error that ruled him out of it - oh and also without Roger on board [no offence] - I reckon he would have been just as close as Twist Magic and Don't Push It when they came down

Major Sensation will make a nice chaser - although I'd imagine he will be handicapped well enough to appear when some people least expect it.

Jered, a less quirky Harchibald? Wouldnt surprise me to see him develop into a champion hurdle contender next year.

well, was not a special race yesterday but loved his attitude and how he pricked his ears when shooting clear. previous form has been decent and is with right trainer as well. I too think he can go all the way to the top.

“Less quirky” is not really a trait I would use to describe Jered. I will be interested to see what he finds off the bridle against some of the better novices at Punchestown.

I think he has looked a different animal the last twice, and maybe didnt contest Cheltenham because of the owners riches in the novice events. Wasnt a bad pot to pick up yesterday with little or no fuss either. I think there is every chance that he would deal with the better novices in a similar manner.
