Decent cards at Fairyhouse this weekend for those jumping fans wanting to avoid the start of the flat at Doncaster...

On Saturday Clopf vs Perce Rock in the Grade 3 chase. Clopf gets weight for all his rivals.

While on Sunday on a much stronger cards....

Cooldine, Aranleigh,Chasing Cars,Mick The Man, Rinroe and Woodbine Willie all clash in the novice hurdle.

Big Zeb and Sky's The Limit look the too main challengers for a weak looking Powers Gold Cup.

This is one of the worst Fairyhouses I can remember.

Meade's horses are running pretty poorly, with Corkskeagh Royale the only ray of light at Cheltenham.

Otherwise I would probably have a few bob on Mick the Man to shake up Cooldine.

Cooldine is a fascinating runner, built like a 3 mile chaser and runs like one! Nice to see him do well at Fairyhouse and Punchestown ahead of what should be a fruitful novice chasing campaign.

Perce Rock did it well enough without suggest he could be up to challenging for Grade 1 honors next season. Clopf stopped to a walk again, give him a wind operation or something.

Quite testing conditions it seemed....very surprised that even Fred's Benefit was PU

Philip Carberry almost pulled it off in the big novice handicap, ran a lot of good horses ragged bar the Martin yoke.

Gonebeyondrecall the horse to take out of the bumper though, wouldn't give up on him giving nearly two stone away to the winner.

Got to love the way Cooldine battled back today...first two pulled miles clear as well.

Some bunch of novice chasers to go to war with next season all going well.

Cooldine was matched at 40 in running. The horse that Ruby rode in the handicap hurdle was matched at 1.01.
The needy and the greedy.

Horse to take out of today from the rest of the races is surely Shirley Casper in the mares race. Very good debut over hurdles.

Will be interesting to see if - considering her age I'd suggest maybe not - if they keep her as a novice. Alternatively, should be able to win a maiden and then be aimed at some of the better mares races next year. Wouldn't be a great surprise to see her end up in that race at Cheltenham maybe considering she has acted around the track before.

I must admit that for a minute I thought she'd gone wrong or something, seemed to check her stride, but then at the end she was kind of getting closer although that was more to do with the winner idling or coming back than anything.

I wouldn't be too alarmed by it, after that long off you could argue she maybe just blew up or wasn't quite fit enough to go with the winner when she was sent on. Considering new connections wouldn't have her that long - I'm guessing a month or so - then it's a fair effort.

Looked to me like Shirley Casper blew up more than anything else.

Anybody heard anything about Megan's Joy by the way? Dissapointed she didn't run.

Looking forward to seeing Cooldine over fences over a trip as well. Apart from the winner and the runner up (who looks a bit one paced) though, the race was full of thoroughly dissapointing sorts.

The likes of Woodbine Willie, Aranleigh (what the **** has Tony Mullins done with him) and Mick The Man.

Not crabbing the winner though.

Woodbine Willie might be frustrating (travels very well) his form with Venalmar and Trafford Lad is rock solid.

Agree about Aranleigh.

Suppose so, Galileo. Could be seen to better effect given better ground and a fast-run race, but he's dissapointed me to be honest (not least because I think he's a more talented hurdler than Venalmar or Trafford Lad!).

Not been a good few weeks for Fenton anyway.

Possibly. Then again he got exactly that in the bumper at Punchestown last year only to be beaten by Mick The Man...

I was just really pleased that Drunken Disorderly got round in one piece on Saturday :D even if he didn't win. Was disappointed with Sky's The Limit today, seemed to be making terrible heavy weather of it from a long way out.

We're all going to Lockinge P2P tomorrow but I'm hoping to get away early to watch the Irish GN

Btw Philip Carberry gave a grand ride today at Auteuil to the top French chasing mare Princesse d'Anjou, who won the Grade 3 Prix de Troytown which is a trial for the Grand Steeplechase de Paris which she won last year. It would be unprecedented for a mare to win it twice, but she's fancied to do so. She's now won £790,533 - and she's still only 7!

It was on RUK so you should be able to catch a re-run

Just not quite right yet. Taking a long time to get back into same form as last Summer. That's mares for ya!!
