May I take this opportunity to congratulate Richard Benyon on his election as MP for the Newbury constituency - having known him for 15 years or so, I am confident he will make a great MP for the area.
 
Isn't he a local landowner probably the family seat .

About as important a result for national interest as Taunton was last time .

As hunting will be a distant memory by 2009 ............
 
Yes, he is a local landowner & yes, it is the family seat. His father is Lord Benyon of Englefield House and Estate which is large; the family were particularly prominent during Tudor times - it is said you could walk pretty much from Newbury to London on Benyon lands.

You may rubbish the result Ardross, and it's importance, as it is not relevant to you (and you are a confirmed Tory hater) but it is important to those in the area and I believe you are out of order poo-pooing it. I am very happy as I truly believe that he will be a very good MP to my area.

Yep most people in Lambourn area seem to be delighted at Benyon being elected. The other guy seems to do things for the town but out in the sticks he has been nigh on useless, how he can be on "whatever" racing committee when everyone here hates him, I dont know!
