I don't know if anyone else caught it, but today was Steve Irwin's memorial. It was an absolutely wonderful way to farewell this remarkable man, whom truly did put Australia on the map for all the right reasons.
A lot of glowering tributes, from people such as Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Larry King, Hugh Jackman, Cameron Diaz etc. Several nice melodies played by his favourite singer, the Australian icon, John Williamson. He strummed his guitar, and sang the widely known "Home Amongst the Gum Trees" and Steve's favourite number, "True Blue."
John Howard, the prime minister spoke, as well as Steve's dad Bob.
But it was Bindi whom set the crocoseum alight, and whom will continue the legacy of her famous father. Never have I seen a young person, under so much pressure, carry their charm so high above the rest. Reading a speech, that she specially wrote, she brought the stands not only to their feet, but many tears were wept. And as guaranteed, she promised to continue the dream.
A wonderful celebration of a life of a person, whom did so much for this world.
