PLACE YOURS BELOW IF YOU HAVE ANY

Ode to Billy Joe - Lots of good versions, but the one I have is Tammy Wynette (I think).

Dolly Parton would be my favourite C&W artist, but, while many of her songs are pleasant to listen to, nothing really stands out as brilliant. "I will always love you" is as good as it gets.

Dolly Parton is great - Jolene , I will always love you and the Bargain Store

Willie Nelson Always on My Mind

Jim Reeves - ( what's the one when he sings and you can tell your friend there with you he will have to go

Country music top artist however must be Patsy Cline - I Fall to Pieces Crazy Stop the World and Let me off etc

Johnny rosin up your bow
And play your fiddle hard
Cause hell's broke loose in Georgia
And the devil deals the cards
And if you win
You get this shiny fiddle made of gold
But if you lose, the devil gets your soul

Singin' the Blues (who sang it?)

"Wail, ah nayvuh failt mo' like singin' the blooze,
Coz I nayvuh thawt that ah'd aiver looze
Yaw lurve, dear,
Waajer dewme this way?"

Johnny Cash was great, sounded world-weary and wise, and old Willie sings like the way he looks. What I can't stand are female C&W singers with high, screechy voices. If I were a lonesome cowpoke out on the range, I'd probably live up to the term rather than go back to their yowling back home...

Krizon - Singing The Blues was a US hit for Guy Mitchell. (Tommy Steele did a rather poor but successful UK cover version).

My God, I agree with Ardross for once !! Crazy by Patsy Cline - fabulous record.

Friends in Low Places

Blame it all on my roots
I showed up in boots
And ruined your black tie affair
The last one to know
The last one to show
I was the last one
You thought you'd see there
And I saw the surprise
And the fear in his eyes
When I took his glass of champagne
And I toasted you
Said, honey, we may be through
But you'll never hear me complain

'Cause I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I've got friends in low places

Well, I guess I was wrong
I just don't belong
But then, I've been there before
Everything's all right
I'll just say goodnight
And I'll show myself to the door
Hey, I didn't mean
To cause a big scene
Just give me an hour and then
Well, I'll be as high
As that ivory tower
That you're livin' in

'Cause I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I've got friends in low places

3rd Verse:
I guess I was wrong
I just don't belong
But then, I've been there before
And everything is alright
I'll just say goodnight
And I'll show myself to the door
I didn't mean to cause a big scene
Just wait 'til I finish this glass
Then sweet little lady
I'll head back to the bar
And you can kiss my ass

My brother is an absolute C&W nut, I've tried for yonks to get him a copy of Frankie Laine singing "I'm just a poor Bachelor", Kazzaa, Limewire, Exeem etc. I've tried the lot, Nearest I came was finding out its on an albulm called "Hear The Music", which is listed on Amazon, with 29 secs of each track to sample. But as with all the other leads, "Not Available" (it was only released in 1995)!
Then whilst sitting searching google the other week I came across a seconhand cd/record store in California which had the CD! Wore kids birthday was 11th of Feb. With the thing turning up with three days to spare, with the cost and postage totaling just under 8$, around 4 and a half quid!
I personally like lots of the Johnny Cash stuff (seems to have lost the plot a bit on finding God)! Don Gibson, There used to be a bit of a spit & sawdust type bar I used to frequent on Saturday This old biddy (Irene) used to play the organ/piano and all the more senior punters used to get up sing a song. One fella I remember used to sing Mule Train whilst batting himself over the head with an empty beer tray :D
Of the records I like, Cool Water (Frankie Laine) is probally my Fav.
Some queer lyrics out there, try listening to Red Sovine :o
i.e "some niggers never die, they just smell that way", can't imagine it ever getting on the BBC's playlist!!!

Thanks, RayH! My parents had the 78, and I used to play it loads. Also, not probably C&W, strictly, but howzabout "Ghost Riders of the Skyeeeeeee..." - I used to love that!

Jonny Cash's Hurt is a cover though...isnt it.??? Think ti was voted the best video of all time by Q recently. Its great, how he wrote his own last chapter.
