At Court this week, I picked up a copy of the BBC's 'History' magazine and, while it's fairly bite-size stuff, there was decent enough article on Haigh, which is clearly, now, revisionist. It looks as if he was, in the diaries which he kept (and not the bowdlerised versions his wife published), far from happy about many of Britain's allies, finding Joffre et al arrogant and stupid.

I'd consider watching it if it appears, Brian, though I usually burst into tears at the sight of any old 'over the top' footage, knowing what an appalling fate awaited most of the men filmed, and the tragic effect on the living they left behind. There's nothing redeemable about that war, as far as I can see.
