I was just reading the obituary of johnnie Stewart, the original producer of Top of the Pops. In the first ever broadcast in 1964 they opened with the Rolling Stones singing "I Wanna Be Your Man", and the show included Dusty Springfield, The Hollies, Cliff Richard and the Beatles. Whatever you might think of that lot, you might agree with me that it's not as packed with top flight talent today.

Interesting that the first ever song played on Top Of The Pops was a cover version of a song that was originally done by a group that appeared on the same show.

I watch TOTP2 on satellite a couple of times a week. There were some tremendous performances down the years -it makes you wonder where it all went wrong. As the groups got slicker the energy and enthusiasm disappeared. If TOTP was the only programme on the Roger Melly I would rather switch off.

Now that I think of it I was watching TOTP2 a few weeks ago and there was a song on from the 70s cant remember the name something about Jeans or Blue Jeans.Anyway the guy singing it was a toff by the name of Dudson(?)-is he any relation to the guy who rides Joly Bey.
