A couple of chasers appeal today. Not big prices, by any means, but here are two that I've noted:

Samazul - 1.25 Fontwell 2/1 Win
One of a few chasers that have made an impression on me, winning last time out. He jumped well, I thought, and put in a notable performance which augers well. a course winner, too: not to be underestimated; it's a tricky chase course.

Etalon - 2.25 Exeter 7/2 Win
He was a favourite of mine last season and won three chases before disappointing (I thought) at Aintree. Chasers often improve second season so I'm not likely to be deserting him in this Haldon handicap, a race I've liked over the years. He's attractively weighted, I think, and goes in 'most grounds', according to his trainer.

As I say, not big prices but I'll be happy if one or both win as we see the jump season hit full stride.

Blimey.

From looking all over the winner with two to jump, collapses in a heap and finishes last of the finishing runners.

From Masarati to moped in a few strides.

From supercharged to scooter.

Dreadful.

And there you go: a lose double. Brilliant.

Etalon keeps the average up with a needed run and last to finish.

You can see why I so confidently publish these selections, can't you?

Not the only Pauling runner to fall out the back of my TV recently

Hiya Al

Very frustrating but early season bets are always laced with not knowing if they're fit or not. Samazul was indeed fit but just ran like he'd been shot in the home straight.

BHA:
'Following the race, Ben Jones reported that SAMAZUL, unplaced, stopped quickly. '

You don't say!

Ugh!
