I am moving - yet again - and The town of Gainsborough in Lincolnshire will be where I hang my hat, does anyone know what the place is like?

On a related note I would like to thank all the folks who offered me employment advice, I am staying with the same company and fingers crossed I will not have to take too much of a pay cut

Yes. Don't go there.
At least you'll be able to watch championship football down the road at Scunny next season.

try googling "gainsborough crap towns"

Market town with 18C three-arched bridge across Trent to Nottinghamshire. Old Hall, timber-framed house built 1500 is now a museum of furniture, paintings, and costumes, with exhibition on Richard III. Nearby Richmond Park, Whitton Riverside Gardens, short distance to Wetlands Waterfowl Reserve, Bomber County Aviation Museum, Brandy Wharf Cider Centre, and a nice drive south to historic Lincoln. To the west is historic village of Gringley on the Hill, set on a 200' ridge with views in three directions and Early English Church of St Peter and St Paul, remains of prehistoric fort on Beacon Hill nearby.

Masses of ancient relics in all directions! Loads of outdoor museums, places to see, etc. Outside Lincoln you can walk the Viking Way. (That's normal strolling, but with cow horns strapped to your head.)

Enjoy, o/b, it's all that you decide to make it!

It was after the town of Gainsborough that the Triple Crown winner was named - the owner picked it out of a railway timetable.

Went there last year as some relatives live that way. Some nice parts as befits a
town that was very prosperous in past centuries. Centre of town somewhat rundown. Has a ubiquitous retail park. Would guess that theres not much work around but on the edges some very well to do areas.
Apart from the power stations doted on the skyline local countryside very pleasant.

Plenty of worse places to be sent but unlkely to be exciting.

Best of luck OB. I worked for a high street bookie for a few years too many and only realised when I left how much they took the pi.... I mean took advantage over their good, able and reliable staff. Those who couldn't care less seemed to thrive whilst the conscientious were taken advantage of. Don't let the b@stards get you down.

make sure you take a baseball cap and some trackies

sure you will see plenty of these down there

GAINS-BOROUGH IS A GAMBLERS PARADISE???............. and a bookmakers nightmare :suspect: :) :P wouldn't we all love that, hey!!!

Good luck Mike just hope it turns out well for you mate.........if not, always be one jump ahead and keep looking at the market place! In jobs, so if the worse happens you can spread your wings and fly ..............

I've been flying for quite a while now Merlin. This will be the 9th city/town I have lived in since 1998 and a total of 14 addresses, it would be nice to put roots down somewhere

Why not pop up for a weekend soonish and take a good look around before you settle in, o/b? If you don't feel it has the right vibe for you, then it may be worthwhile not committing to the place. What do you want from the place where you live, and does Gainsborough appear to offer most of it?

Cornwall's a beautiful, stunning county, but if you're young and single and living in any of its seaside towns, it can also be very, very lonely, I found. So many of the young, unattached folk move out to the big towns for the money. So while you gain magnificent scenery, you don't make many friends! Just an example - like you, I've moved more times than I care to think about, and while most were forced by family or job circumstances rather than for personal preference, it's nice to feel 'ahhhh, at last' for a bit!

The sun is shining for you today, so let's hope that is a good omen for your new location, your staff and your customers! :)

Got the dog today on finding out the Cargo in Newbry is shutting down to make way for yet anothe f*cking Costa Coffee - like another one is needed!!! Walk another 20 yards to the next coffee shop instead you lazy ######!!!

3 bedroom house for 335 a month, 5 minutes walk to work and 4 minutes to the shops, can't complain

The shop will not open now until the 27 April as the shopping centre is not built yet

And your impressions of your new town and whatever you've managed to see of the surroundings? Pretty? Quaint? Classic? Good places to eat, drink, and be merry?
