Any idea where the two high priced fillies went to that were sold in 2013 (5 million out of brigid) & 2012 (2.5 million out of Alluring park) tattersalls October sales are? there was another one in 2010/2011 which didn't make it to the track, I think it was called Liffeys dream or something like that, she went off as a broodmare

Liffey Dancer was from a few years further back, she was sold in 2007 for 2.5 million guineas. She was in training with Cumani, and never saw the track. She was out of Brigid alright, but by Sadler's Wells.

She has since had a Street Cry filly called Keepers Ring, who is 3 now. That filly was in the catalogue book for Book 1 of Tattersalls last year, but she didn't seem to sell:

Nearly the full way down this page.

Blimey, how the heck do they make there money back from a 5 million purchase, I can understand a colt but as a mare they are only going to produce say a doz or so foals over the years, cheers!

But only one of those dozen or so foals has to be a Frankel, a Galileo, a SW for them to show a profit on the outlay.

Unlikely to happen, but racing is fuelled by such dreams.

Even a Rip van Winkel makes nearly €10 million in his first 4 years at stud. If he is a turkey, that drops off quicky. If he is successful, he'll yield hopefully 4-5 times that.

Look at the new stallions in 2014. Camelot, Declaration of War, Most Improved.

Combined, they should yield over €30mm in the next four years. The hope is that at least one of those can suceed, and continually pull in over €20k per cover for 10 years or more.

The devil is in the detail, but I can see how the model might work.

Giants Causeway by the time his first crop son won the 2000Gns had in excess of 1000 foals on the ground in all hemispheres.
Northern Dancer in his life sired circa 600 foals.
During a tour of Irish National Stud a few years ago the guide valued stallions at advertised stud fee multiplied by 1000.

600, that isn't very many by todays standards

Do we know how many storm cat & Sadlers wells sired in their life?

Northern Dancer sired 636 foals. His biggest crop was 36.

Sadler's Wells is responsible for 2193 foals, almost as many as Northern Dancer, Nureyev and Danzig put together.

Storm Cat sired 1414.

Galileo will surpass his dad on number of foals in the next couple of years and he is only 16 years old.
