Gigginstown

Is a Ryanair profit warning expected ???

There was one in Jan 2019.

Michael O'Leary did lose his position as a billionaire in the latest Sunday Times rich list. But, not sure horses are the reason for that. While rich, he at least is tax resident and if he so wanted, could find less socially responsible ways to get back as a billionaire.

I wasn't surprised at Ruby's announcement. It had been coming for a while. This one I'd never have predicted.

I'm not sure how I feel about it to be honest. Will it leave a big hole, or will it make for fairer racing and more opportunity for the smaller guy? Time will tell.

I find it slightly concerning that racing could struggle to fill that gap - he employs an awful lot of people ( via the yards!) for that many horses and people just aren’t going in for ownership these days...

Only one runner in Punchestown Gold Cup in a field of eight or nine.
Lousy Festivals bar Tiger Roll and a spate of bad publicity re multi runners in Handicaps Ml has no interest in.
Also quoted as having no interest in races where he has no runners .
It will likely encourage many owners though I thought Ricci would be first to go.

Definitely opens up them possibilities Ed

Ricci had a good end to the year so safe for now

The sellers now will start to feel the pinch

The Irish dominated Cheltenhams may seen a fabrication of the past very shortly

Yes but may make some horses selling more accessible to people that might otherwise be priced out of purchasing those animals. The market usually adjusts itself when something like this happens. It could be argued that prices have been artificially inflated for certain purchases because of O'Leary's involvement. If Coolmore and Gosden stopped buying you wouldn't see some of the silly prices at the Flat sales but the horses would still, in the main, sell.

Graham Wylie maybe if his heart is still fully in it
Actually that's a very good point.

I think the problem for Graham Wylie is he misses the old Howard Johnson days though. I don't mean the man himself, I mean the fact that the yard was on his doorstep and he was able to spend a considerable amount of time there. If I were Graham I would try and replicate that again. That's how and where he fell in love with the sport.

Uncle Trevor Hemmings sits 11th on Times rich list. At 84 though have to wonder if he could be bothered.

They’re a pain in the ass sometimes, but on a whole I think the O’Learys are good for the game.

The Arabian influence is surely unlikely when their operations centre on breeding. I can't see them being bothered for a few mares.

One of my most painful memories was watching Noel Meade early Tuesday morning Cheltenham 2105 on the schooling track.
He was totally distraught after getting the news Road to Riches was declared for Ryanair chase instead of running in Gold Cup having finished third the previous year.
W P and Jackie Mullins did their best to console him and keep him from prying eyes .
I believe that was the day WP decided he was not going to suffer the same fate from anyone.

I heard Giggi bought and built the Elliot set up and Gordon is paying him back over a term, which might explain the gradual withdrawal of Giggi.
