Glenn Ford, who has been around forever - from Johhny in "Gilda" to Superman's foster-father - has died aged 90. A truly consummate professional actor, he leaves some good work as his legacy.

Some curse to live to 90, having made your living doing what you enjoy! Lovely actor, understated, looked like the type of person whose company you'd enjoy.

The fact that he was 90 years old is enough to blow the curse theory out of the water. I was being sarcastic to the highest level possible and poking fun at the ridiculous curse of Superman theory.

What a boring pair of twits you are.

You wouldn't know sarcasm if it slapped your arse, Phil - or your face. Though, in your case, sarcasm wouldn't know your arse from your face...

I see it had the desired effect, though, of that puny attempt at a riposte...

... you know I'm still very fond of you, though? A dear sweet boy, given the chance, etc., etc.

I remember GF in Blackboard Jungle which must have been around the ' Teddy Boy ' era, very popular film and topical at that time.

It is one thing living until you are 90 but what was his quality of life ?

"Blackboard Jungle" was 1955, a very early film in Sidney Poitier's career and a massive boast to Bill Haley and the Comets with "Rock Around The Clock" as its main tune.

Glenn Ford had a series of strokes in the few years leading up to his death but had a good and healthy life until then.

On the subject of quality of life for the aged, an amazing character was shown on the BBC London news this evening - 100 years old today and still working!

Must be down to genetics, my father died at 53

A once frequent customer of mine started jogging when he was 80 because he was bored, apart from his hair thinning, he had nothing wrong with him.

Another guy who delivered building materials was fit and looked much younger than his years ( actually 72 ) and like to broach the subject of age and asked people directly how old they thought he was.
He did this every time with me so one day I said " but can you still get a hard on George ? " he replied " oh thats history, I'd rather have a good sh*t " :(

When I started working at Lingfield, one of the gatemen had just left. The reason was that, he told his mates, his wife was complaining that he didn't spend enough time with her. "I suppose I'd better do what she says," he told them, "or I won't have any peace." He was 92!

 I'm trying to imagine an 80+ y.o. being jealous of anything, Lee, but it just ain't workin'! To be honest, I think a lot of the old boys working at the courses are just happy NOT to be at home, and it keeps their marriages a lot sweeter for the hours spent away trying to find the value for the 20p placepots!
