Very very bad luck for all concerned.
None of N Meades Cheltenham festival winners had any luck so far.
He looked a picture last Sunday. Horrible for the owners who had the patience and love for the horse to persevere. A cracking horse in all respects.

I adore bridle horses like him. To see them swinging along hard held whilst others are flat to the mat is a sight to behold. Sometimes these horses are called soft...that's bullshit...they give everything without being asked. He will be missed and is my first ante-post docket to be torn up.

GO NATIVE, a three-time Grade 1 winner over hurdles and who fell at the final flight when pressing Hurricane Fly in the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown on Sunday, has had to be put down after breaking a hindleg while cantering on trainer Noel Meade's gallops on Friday morning.
An upset Meade said: "His owners and all of us here are heartbroken by what happened this morning. Go Native was doing a steady canter when he broke his off-hindleg above the hock. It happened about 100 yards from me and why it happened I don't know.

"He had been 100 per cent since Punchestown and was hacking through the week before we decided where he might run next. It's an awful loss and everyone here is gutted. His owners (the Docado Syndicate) had been so patient and we were all thrilled by how well he came back from such a long layoff.

"It's terrible and very hard to take. You need to made of steel in this business."
Winner of the Supreme Novices Hurdle at the 2009 Cheltenham Festival, Go Native went to achieve further Grade 1 victories in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle and the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton later that year before starting favourite for the 2010 Champion Hurdle in which he finished tenth behind Binocular.
He was injured in the Cheltenham race and was off the track until last month when he twice ran on the Flat, winning a 1m6f amateur riders event at Galway under Nina Carberry.
He reverted to hurdles at Punchestown on Sunday and was delivering his challenge about a length behind Hurricane Fly when falling at the final flight.

I know when Raise The Beat fell in Cork, I told Colm not to hold back on getting him checked out as much as possible. Neck, back, legs - we got them all scanned. You just never know. Of course it may have had nothing to do with the fall and just been a weakness or a freak accident. Very sad. RIP Go Native.

A very sensible precaution in my opinion. If a horse does suffer a really nasty fall, then it must be worth getting him thoroughly checked over if you are in a position to do so.

I'm not saying this happened in GN's case but he could so easily have suffered a minor stress fracture which "blew" when he resumed cantering. I have ridden horses this has happened to and its so easy to say, "if only..."

Awful news, always really loved Go Native and was so pleased to see him back and doing well.

So sad for all his connections and everyone at the yard.

Heart bleeds for them and what makes it worse is what they must have gone through to get him back in such good nick only to have their dreams shattered by pure bad luck.

RIP
