So, I see that Military tycoon is running today. Supposedly going at Fontwell, where the going is g/sft but a long dry spell would make the ground more on the good side. Not for me. I know he needs softer ground . Last night I see he's 12/1 but , really, think (know) he's a nonner. After all, I've followed him for that long, I know the horse. Today, I see he's backed all the way into 9/4 during the day but I'm thinking it's going to be one of those daytime gambles where the horse drifts before the off and blows out. He had, let's be fair, run over the course before where he hung right all the way and finished way down the field.

I look at the race and it's a piss-poor event but has an ex-Irish for James Owen, having it's first run in England and, yes, is actually favourite at the start.

Below are just some of my blog entries for the horse:

Military Tycoon 4.40 Chepstow 10/1 Ew

I've been waiting for this one to go handicapping. He's had four novice runs and this is his first handicap. He won for me on the flat at Salisbury over 1m 6f on the soft so this seems an ideal opportunity to open his account

Thursday 9th May 2024

Anyway, on to today and, at last, we get to see Military Tycoon in a handicap. There's still some soft in the ground, which is good, although I would have liked to see him racing over slightly further. Still, 2m 2f should be enough. If the ground gets too firm, I'd expect the trainer to take him out.

Military Tycoon - Stratford 7.50 12/1 Ew

Military Tycoon
was a punt because I think it's a handicap hurdle they're after.Maybe finishing near last will get a bigger price when they do run in the hurdle.

Military Tycoon - Uttoxeter 3.10 12/1 Ew

I've been waiting for this one to enter a handicap hurdle but was frustrated that he kept being pulled out on account of the ground not being soft enough. Of course, racing continually sees contradictions being presented and here we are again with the ground at Uttoxeter described as 'Good' yet MT has been left in. I still expect him to be pulled out unless the rain comes in time. I took a small, tentative Ew last night at 8's but feel inclined not to cash out and get the12's on offer. I'll let it ride at 8's and see what happens. If he wins, at least I'll have something on but the ground looks to be an issue. It's a tricky event with a few first-time handicappers.

My old pal Military Tycoon runs in the last at Southwell (3.15) and once again, it's a tantalising proposition since I know that what's required is soft ground and 2.5m. Yes, it's another case of the weather holding the whip hand. It seems that G/sft is going to be the call. Now, how soft is the issue and I'm left a little in no man's land and it's not the first time, as this post from 1st November shows:

Military Tycoon 1.28 Donc

Done nothing so far but I've followed this one in the past and wonder whether he might have an ew chance here at big odds.

So, today's race. Owen's horse takes it up on the run-in and looks to have things under control but....
Yes, Military Tycoon gets up just before the post.

I am one of the biggest chumps ever to back a horse.

The stewards:
THE BETGOODWIN BEST ODDS GUARANTEED HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 5)

The winner, MILITARY TYCOON (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Fontwell Park on 23 February 2025, where the gelding finished fifth of eight runners, beaten 108 ½ lengths. Neil Mulholland’s explanation that the gelding was better suited to the way the race was run here today at Fontwell Park, having been inconvenienced by three runners falling in front of it and a report of it hanging right-handed on its previous start, was noted. MILITARY TYCOON (IRE) was routine tested.
---------------------------------------------------------
Yes, utter bollocks. When he raced at Fontwell the previous time , he was always behind because the jockey took off in last placed and stayed there, just like all his other races. Today, races handily all the way. Why? I think we know. The race where' horses fell in front of him' was no excuse at all. As usual, the explanation was noted (while the stable picked up their winnings)

And as we know, I'm a frickin' mug and I just want to give this game up. That was as bent as a nine-bob note. But hey-ho - who cares?
