Goodwood Day 1
2:25. Karl Burke reckons he only ran Holloway Boy in the Chesham at Royal Ascot to get the owners some tickets. In the event he (the horse, not Karl) ran extremely well, settled at the back until 2f out then moving through the field strongly to lead half a furlong out and win going away. It’s difficult to know what the form is worth as only a few of them have run since (without distinction) and it’d be a chancy business to think he might follow up here. Just a watch probably, even though there’s nothing within a mile of him on ratings (questionable?)
3:00. On the same day Sacred ran a fine race to 5th in the 6 furlong Platinum Jubilee less than a length behind the winner. She raced at the rear of the far side group, but had to move much more to the centre to start her challenge over a furlong out. She finished strongly without really getting to look like landing the spoils. She’s being lightly raced and up a furlong in this - presumably an easy get since she was also entered in the Sussex - and I think she is up for this. Danger: Lusail
3:35. Much as it pains me to say so, I think Strad’s day is done and I don’t think Trueshan will cope with the ground in the event that he turns up at all. Have to go with the new kid on the block in Kyprios, but it would be great to see a last hurrah from the old boy.
