... on the 'Fast Reply' button, which lets you overcome 'Flood Control', too! I knew I wasn't a quick learner, but this isn't slow, it's comatose.

On the subject of Smilies, can someone explain why "mellow" looks exactly like "graham norton's behind you"

How on earth would you know what you looked like with Graham Norton behind you? ;)

Surely the word "you" should be removed?

Dims, and since when was free time a problem, huh? We Twelve Good People have been having a rather intense time of it on jury service this week, and it's lingering into next, so ANY free time is much appreciated at the moment! Ah, yes, then working at Lingfield tomorrow, then taking a friend from London to lunch with the Wonder of the Ages in her nursing home on Sunday... yes - in fact, several consecutive minutes are free, mostly after 11 pm! I don't know what this retirement lark is, I'm still waiting for it to happen...

Jon, it doesn't overcome flood control. If you type a short post within the thirty seconds it will still not be allowed.

Well, it DID THIS TIME, so there! Isn't there a smilie which moons at people? I'd really, really like to use it - a lot - on here.

I can offer a leprachaun

An intense time on jury service ! Hope you appreciate how demanding a barrister's job is now

I certainly appreciate the hours they keep - start at 10.30 am. Lunch 12 -1.00 pm, or in one case last week, 12.00-2.00 as De Judge had to be elsewhere. Resume until anywhere between 3.00 and 4.00, tops. Phew! :D

What is intense is the amount of (frequently conflicting) information you have to digest from both counsels, the asides from the judge, and the person giving evidence, as well as having your train of thought interrupted by frequent sendings-out while the two barristers confer over points of law. I've scribbled about 30 pages of aides memoire, and we ain't over yet! Most of the jurors have taken notes - I think the head teacher and I have taken the most, since keeping track of dates and events over a period of decades is impossible without so doing.

It's a very interesting exercise, though, in getting some insight into how a Crown Court functions. What was a surprise was walking through the lobby at day's end and bumping into one of my raceday colleagues, who is a part-time clerk at the court! He asked me which case I was on, and I said if I told him I'd have to kill him. The security guard found it funny, anyway.

And do you think there is no time spent on preparation for the hearing ? Let alone arguing these blasted points of law .

Remember we have to do what you are doing as well so those closing speeches are prepared .

Let alone working on other cases before and after court .

That flood control can be a bit of a pain in the arse, I think FF's is now set at 10 seconds. At least if it isn't it soon will be.

I know, some of you thought it was set at 3 days. :D
