Some real nice early season jumps this weekend in Ireland

Sizing, First Lieutenant, Joncol and China Rock all clash over 2m 4f tomorrow at Gowran.

Moon Dice, Lord Ben, Jetson and Nearest the pin in the novice chase on the same card

Sunday at Thurles sees up and coming Rebel Fitz against Thousand Stars

Most excited to be seeing the hurdling debut of Roy Wilson's Yes Way Hosay who finished fifth in the Champion Bumper. He could be a real star in the making and the step up to 2 1/2 miles is sure to suit him, really nice horse IMHO.

It's a shame China Rock and Joncol are missing today but it's still an interesting race.

I doubt any of the main contenders will be fully wound up and this could be something of a phoney war but, for what it's worth, I think Forpadydeplasterer is overpriced at 12-1.

However, I regard it as morally dubious to back him, given the owners' allegiance to the forces of darkness from Wearside.

Lessons learned

ForPady is consistent sort

FL Aabsolutely hates soft ground and shouldn't run on it

SE is a classy animal but will in all likelihood be tried over 3 miles again at Downroyal and it won't appeal to him

Nice return from the old boy. Can't have had ground as good as this for many of his seasonal reappearances.

Disappointed a bit with First Leftenant. He settled better than I expected he might but I suppose he would have needed this.

Very much a good ground horse Euro. He may travel to the UK if he wants his ground. He will be a nice price for the big chases late in the season.

Yeah. I remember Davy saying how much he hated deep ground in a Cheltenham preview last spring. Have to confess I wasn't sure how soft it was today. The RP had it as good ground this morning.

Looked like a horse stuck in 3rd gear at the end. On the go awhile.

Davy Russell was the jockey on beaten favourite Rebel Fitz and he said: “He felt flat. He ran out of petrol on the ground, but we’ve no excuses.”

Trainer Michael Winters added of his Galway Hurdle winner: “He’ll have a break now. He’s due a break. Even before today he was going to get a break.

“The winner looked tremendous. We’re happy enough with our fellow and he’s in one piece. We’re not really sure about plans, but he may come back for the Spring festivals and run over hurdles.”

Guy in the RP was suggesting FL doesn't go right handed.

There's a real buzz when the national hunt comes back. I was talking to a fella in Longchamp yesterday who hadn't been there for a while and he said he'd have preferred to have been in Gowran watching Sizing Europe.

From Glos Echo

CHELTENHAM Festival winner Sizing Europe could return to Prestbury Park next month after he made a winning comeback on Saturday.

The 2011 Queen Mother Champion Chase hero kicked off his campaign with a comfortable victory under Andrew Lynch at Gowran Park.

He jumped to the front at the penultimate fence and pulled clear to win by seven and a half lengths from Forpadydeplasterer.

Delighted with Sizing Europe's performance, trainer Henry de Bromhead said the Schloer Chase at the Open meeting at Cheltenham on November 18 was now a possible target.

"I felt he was a bit scratchy but he's like that on his first run every year," he said.

"He just likes to get his eye in on his first run but as it gets on in the season he really starts to attack them.

"It's a lovely way to start and we're looking forward to the season.

"There are three races to consider for him in November.

"They are the three-miler in Down Royal (JNwine.com Champion Chase), the Fortria Chase at Navan or a conditions race at Cheltenham.

"We'll try to space it out, so we'll run in one of them and then something at Christmas.

"I want to speak to Ann and Alan (Potts, owners) but he has loads of options."

Sizing Europe was runner-up in last season's Champion Chase at Cheltenham, where the first meeting of the season is on Friday and Saturday week.

Well that f*cks up Big Zeb then who would be going for the Fortria and the Dial A Bet. Unless he means the King George and that's why they are missing the Tingle Creek.

Ah no Henry, there's only ever one option with Potts.......HIS

SE aside, there must be another horse in these shores who can beat BZ at this stage

I'm sure there is but the best chance of a win for BZ at this stage is the Fortria and Crimbo. Competition is not welcome. would love to see him go out with a win in a grade 1, any grade 1. Some servent.
