Hi,

I don't have a prize as yet, but for a bit of fun, I thought we could have a tipping competition amongst ourselves.

I was thinking we could add 10 selection's (all at once please, no replacement's) before the confirmed 6 day declarations (let's say all entries need to be in by Saturday 29th March Midnight)

If amongst your 10 selection's you find the winner, you will score ...

1st: 5pts
2nd: 4pts
3rd: 3pts
4th: 2pts
5th: 1pt

I will post mine now to get things going. I will presume if no one else enters, it was not a good idea (lol).

Excellent idea but do you want to run it alongside a tipping comp like I ran for Cheltenham? And have this as an add-in?

well we got 35 entries for the Cheltenham one which I think is the most for a very long time! Quite a few new names too so there is obviously interest. I managed to get my head around the scoring by sticking everything on a spreadsheet and then putting the naps in red so I didn't miss them - and I think only one mistake made (well maybe people were too kind to comment!)

In the good old days, Diamond Geezer used to run the comps and do SPs as well which is way beyond my capabilities to work things out.

But I say see how many people are interested via here and devise how you want to run the other races? I did keep the bonus points down as I felt it was relatively easy to get a 25-1 winner but blooming difficult to get a 50-1 shot. Obv if you factor in SPs thats more favourable to pick bigger priced horses.

Yes, let's see. I thought about including prices, but did not want to over complicate things for me (lol).

Hi,

When reviewing last year's result

I Am Maximus 7/1 Favourite
Delta Work 28/1
Minella Indo 28/1
Galvin 40/1
Kitty’s Light 12/1

Three of the placed horses SP was 28/1 or bigger. Therefore I am not sure price is so important in the Grand National. As long as all entries are in before the confirmed 6 day decs (Midnight, on Saturday 29th March).

I therefore like the idea of keeping this competition as simple as possible. So price of a selection makes no difference, and we will go with the format at the start of this thread.

What I aim to do once all entries are in is to inform everyone which horses have been selected the most, in case people want to follow them. I am a great believer in the idea of using everybody's brain power, I have been part of a winning quiz team on many occasions by doing so 😃.

Once the Grand National is over, we will crown the Winner, 2nd and 3rd. Please support this thread, right now I think we could all do, with a bit of fun in our lives 👍.

It will be more of a challenge to have fewer picks - three to five maybe - after the 48 hour declaration stage. And it will save time on typing the horses' names. Anything between 35 and 40 in the list of weights might get a run, and those from 41 onwards probably won't.

Hi Jayhawk, Thank you for taking an interest, Yes I think that's a good idea for a seperate thread.

The idea behind this thread is to name your selections, before the confirmed 6 day declarations. If you wanted to then bet on them, you could always bet NRNB like I have done so.

I would quite happily follow both threads, as I think they both offer a different challenge 👍.

If either of you would like any help putting together some kind of spreadsheet/calculator for these then feel free to let me know. I've (sadly) gathered plenty experience (and AI can fill in any gaps)!

Thank you, that's appreciated, hopefully mine is so simple that I don't require AI (lol).

Since no one has entered yet 😒, and as L'homme Presse is a Non Runner, I will make my 10th selection Hyland.

Alex are you just running a comp for the actual National or are you running a tipping comp for the whole of Aintree? I imagine you would only get late entries for the former in any case.

Hi Jinny, No mate it's just the National. I thought it would be interesting to see what other members thought could run well in the National, before the we receive the news regarding the confirmed runners on Monday.

If I received entries, my idea was to use the collective brain power to produce a short list on Sunday, which members could then decide to back if they wish.

Okay we have reached the final day of entries to this competition, and if no one else enters before midnight, I will be crowned Grand National Tipping Champion even if I fail to score a point 😀.

Just to repeat the rules ...

You can select up to 10 horses that you think will run well in the Grand National. If you wish to select less than 10 that's fine.

If amongst your selection's you find the horse placed ....

1st: = 5pts scored
2nd: = 4pts
3rd: = 3pts
4th: = 2pts
5th: = 1pt

Once the Grand National is over, the Winner, 2nd and 3rd will be crowned 👑.

Cheers Alex

I don't generally do entering competitions but, If Maurice wins, even in a match, we're liable to never hear the end of it so....

Facing disqualification for being 24 mins late?

Half a dozen people picking 10 horses and I don't think anyone has included the winner yet. Time will tell maybe I'm wrong.

As I have said previously this competition was all about having a bit of fun, so no Chunky Monkey your not disqualified for being 24 mins late or even 1 hour 24 mins late 😀.

Thank you to everyone that entered. Later today, I will turn to AI and work out which horses have had the most votes and post them on here.

I'm going for the Brits to strike back:

1. Hyland
2. Hitman
3. Bravemansgame
4. Senior Chief
5. I am Maximus
6. Beauport
7. M Cocooner
8. Perceval
9. Threecardbrag
10. Intense Raffles
