40) This year's Melbourne Cup winner had spent his first two seasons in Lambourn with Harry Dunlop. Name the horse.

Who am I?

41) I came up from Oz in 2010 and I was the fastest thing around that summer. But it seems I'm not such a whizz with the ladies and I was returned to the track after flopping at stud. I didn't win anything this year but I've still got plenty of boot, as you all saw at the Breeders' Cup, when I ran the first three furlongs as if my tail was on fire.

42) My most valuable success in Britain this year was in the series final of Kempton's London Mile, so I guess you could say that I still haven't quite cracked it here. And there was that embarrassment over my riding a finish one circuit too soon at Wolves. But it clearly didn't kill off my mojo because, just three months later, I celebrated a winner in Germany by dropping the reins in the final furlong and spreading my arms out like a swallow. I won a Grade One in Japan the other day, worth £594,000 to the winner, so I'll get by, even if the English don't warm to me.

43) I was almost in tears after training my third winner at the Cheltenham Festival, 17 years after the second. And it turns out they're like London buses, as I had another one the next day. I got some recognition when both horses won again at the Grand National meeting, though, very sadly, I lost one of my best horses in the big race itself. Things are quiet once more in my neck of the woods but you'll hear from me again.

44) Trained until last week in the tiny Somerset village of Ash, I became the centre of a kind of circus last winter, when I won seven races out of eight from November to March, rising from a mark of 69 to 157. I can't help thinking that my owner tried to steal my thunder just a bit, climbing on my back as I entered the winner's enclosure at Wincanton, for example. Still, you could feel sorry for the bloke after he reportedly lost £20,000 when I flopped in the Paddy Power last month.

45) I was an excellent source of copy for hacks at the Cheltenham Festival when my horse won one of the big races there this year. They tell me I added a touch of celebrity glamour to proceedings. For my part, I said: "It's a fantastic sport, this. It's far too hard on itself. You've got tens of thousands of people here today, from all walks of life, enjoying it and racing needs to embrace that rather than be so laden with worry." My horse will be challenging for the big race on Boxing Day, as long as we don't get cold feet.

The things they said

46) "She was a proper, old-fashioned countrywoman. She could train her horses, drive the cattle to market and then come back and cook dinner for 20." Said on the passing this year of which owner/trainer, who achieved notable success at the Cheltenham Festival with Willie Wumpkins?

47) "I had my secret weapon on board, who is the best man in a finish in Europe, if not the world." Thus the Aga Khan in June, two months before firing the very same jockey. Name the rider in question.

48) "After peeing for at least 30 seconds, the agony was over. And then I passed out." An excerpt from the extraordinary first chapter to whose autobiography, published this year?

49) "It's blown Nicky Henderson out of the water." Who said it live on terrestrial telly in the seconds after a very significant win?

50) "He's always smashing his box up. He breaks mangers and things like that. He's very hot-blooded." Which trainer, discussing the best horse in his yard.

That's pretty poor surely? I'd get at least half of those from reading through quickly.

I got nearly all of them (more than 40 anyway), but you only get a point if you were the first to answer that question correctly. There seemed to be quite a few having a go and many were answered within nano seconds of the start. It took me about 10 minutes to create a log in by which time it was all too late. 12 was a really good score... you were lucky to be first on any of them. I think the right tactic was to probably start somewhere in the middle rather than at the start or at the end.
