My computer had a bit of a meltdown earlier in the week and I ended up having to use my recovery disk. Unfortunately the problem remains and I`ve been told I have a problem with my hard drive.

My question then is if I just purchase a hard disk online will it work with my computer? Are they generic and able to fit most computers?
 
OK, so you're looking for a 2.5" Serial-ATA internal laptop hard drive - they're the most common laptop ones out there.

I've no idea how easy it'll be to install though - you might want to bring it along to your local computer shop if they offer an upgrade service.
