I am planning to go with some friends and their children to Centerparcs later this year and just wondered if anyone had been. If you have, which one and any comments (good or bad) would be appreciated.

I have heard that the Longleat one is the best but the Spa is going to be closed during the time I was thinking of going.

Looking forward to hearing your comments. B)

Been to Longleat three or four times and also the one at Thetford in East Anglia.
It's as relaxing or as energetic as you want it to be. Longleat is quite hilly and some of the accommodation is a long way from the main plaza although there are free land trains which come around every twenty minutes or so. There is a lake at the bottom with a sports centre and restaurant overlooking it whilst the main plaza is at the top near the entrance There is an outside jacuzzi and a water shute down into the indoor pool if you are brave enough. No cars are allowed in (they allow you one hour to drive in and unload from when you book in I think) so its perfectly safe for cycling etc. Longleat Safari Park is two minutes drive away if you choose to go out of Centerparcs at all.

The one at Thetford has a nine hole golf course and outside tennis courts I remember and has a much larger lake. The peace can be disrupted by airplanes from a nearby RAF base ! The restaurant has a sliding roof which is open on nice days which is good. Seem to remember a very nice salad bar in the concourse.
Since we were there there has been a serious fire so not sure if some of the above is relevant now.

Haven't been to Sherwood but intend to one day.

Don't think you would be disappointed with Longleat Kathy, Bath isn't far away either, maybe the races would be on while you are there.

Expect you have looked here but just in case you haven't

Centerparcs

Thanks DG. We were hoping to go in August (to Longleat) and notice the Spa is closed from Mid July to end August. Not ideal as I really fancied a bit of pampering. One of my friends suggested we go to the one in Cumbria as they have horse riding on site. Anyone would think I was obsessed by my four legged friends. B) It does sound great though.

Friends of mine got to Longleat each year with their kids but I think the Spa is one of the great attractions for the mother - an opportunity to dump the offspring while she chills! The water sports are apparently great and it is very relaxing.

Why on earth they'd close the Spa during the high season beats me!

I've been to Longleat and Thetford - preferred Longleat (the spa there is great) overall but had a good time at both. Went horse riding whilst a Thetford, for the first time in about 15 years - was absolutely crippled afterwards - in fact, I had the utmost difficulty getting on and off my bike ... :D :D

The spa being closed in the height of the season has thrown me too Songsheet.

I will check and see if they still do the horseriding at Thetford Mutley, as if they do, I think that will be my next option. Although Cumbria is absolutely lovely, it will be a 5 hour drive with Barney, and although he is a brilliant traveller, it is still quite a long way, as I may only go for 4 nights. A week with 4 kids may be just too much for me.

Thanks again for your comments.

Colin, there are plenty of places for us "adults" to hide. I wouldn't be going otherwise. B)

Kathy, I know you said it was a bit far but I've heard very good reports about the one in Cumbria, Oasis Whinfell. You're not too far from the Lake District there either, even more horse riding, and in beautiful countryside as well.

I have never been but I spoke to a friend who has kids and who had a holiday there and he said that they really enjoyed it. He did say that the ads are a little deceptive as nearly all the fun things that they show are extras over and above the initial price.

Hi Kathy, we are also thinking about going to the Cumbria CP in May/June time, (during school hols its far too expensive) but at this time its very reasonable. Friends who we are going with have been before and there is absolutly loads for kids to do, but Brian is correct that all the extras can add up very quickly.

Anyone boking can use these codes to try and save some money

DMV16 £100 off (Daily Mail code so you'll already have that one Kathy ;) )

PMB06 Up to 30% off

Thanks Bigeeps! Strangely enough, I don't get the Daily Mail - I don't get time to read papers as a rule. I rely more on the TV news or the radio or read papers online. Thanks for the code, when I book, I will certainly try it. B)

Thanks Brian, I heard about all the extras. It does sound as if it can get very expensive. I think you can actually book a few of them before you go, so for the two families I am going with I will try and get them to do that, especially as we are meant to be going in August! I think they are going to go for one of those VIP chalets, which has the hot tubs, an outside barbeque, their own garden etc and will sleep all 8 of them together 4 adults and 4 children. Strangely enough, I will be the other side of the park in a "comfort" chalet with the other half and Barney! B) We can then sneak off whenever we want to.

Triptych, I really like the idea of the Cumbria one, but we are thinking that we may just go for the 4 days instead of the whole week, so it may be a bit too far - especially with Barney. Who knows, if we like it, we may go again, and then Cumbria might well be the one to go for.

I am going to the Cumbria one for four days at the beginning of May, for a total of £275 which includes an extra £20 to pick what chalet we will be in, well worth it to get nearer everything.

Kathy, you Southerners wouldn't cope with Cumbria, it will be at least 10 degrees colder than your normal tropical temperatures down there. Whereas I am going down to Cumbria in the hope of getting a suntan B)
