Help-fax 7 Broadband

My fax machine has expired.It strikes me that I should be able to send and receive faxes from my PC.I have BT broadband used via wireless router. The PC also has a standard modem that I do not use at present. Should I connect the modem and would I have to turn off the Broadband connction to use. O/S is XP.

Any assistance appreciated.
