Planning to fly home next week, but had my passport stolen last year, and have been unable to get it reissued in time - I need photo ID to board a flight and only have a passport which expired in 2006 (don't drive). Does anyone know a good way of obtaining adequate photo ID quickly - Easyjet seem to suggest that as long as its laminated it's ok! Many thanks.

Mrs Grass used to work for BA, rory and reckons only passport and DL are acceptable....though she says to check with you carrier. She also recommends you take other ID with you such as a bank statement or other official documentation with your name/address as some token back-up.

Safest bet is to waste a day sitting in your local passport office, and shelling the extra to get your passport issued in time. Not much help really, but God loves a trier. :D

Have just spoken to easyjet customer service, who say an old passport would be ok, but mine is just a couple of months too old to be acceptable, but bizarrely, they are happy to accept a library card or similar!

How are BA with out-of-date (exp 2006) passports?? As Dara O'Briain would say "I know it's out of date, but I'm still me!"

BA would be more towards the Gestapo end of the scale according to Her Maj, mate, and chance they will frown upon an out-of-date passport. She says it can often depend on the IQ of the person checking you in.

Least-stress option is to sort a new passport via fast-track if you can manage it.....otherwise you could be winging it more than you'd like. Local passport office can turn these things around in a day if necessary (and you pay the relevant bounty).

Mine ran out about a year ago shortly before a business trip abroad. Cost a lot but personal visit, by appointment, to Eccleston St early morning and passport ready around 5.00pm.

I'm not really into foreign holidays. This week last year I went to Salou. I lasted three days and got a flight home!

I went to Salou in 1989 with all the family - we all got typhoid - worst holiday ever. The wife must have a short memory as she booked a holiday there again 5 years ago  That one went a lot better.

I was also supposed to be going out to Chicago in a couple of days time for 4 days at the Arlington Million - there were 4 of us going but the one in charge of booking the tickets messed up big time. Booked them about 6 months ago, Heathrow to Dublin then Dublin to Chicago but messed up the dates - the flight to Dublin was on the 15th but flight from Dublin to Chigao was on the 17th - Had to cancel the flights and lost 5% but it worked out way too expensive to try and book new flights. Maybe next year?
