Hendo’s Handfull
Always a strong supporter of Kempton, Hendo has seven there today. I’m amazed the going is good to soft/good in places - they must have dodged the deluge that put paid to Sandown yesterday.
12:50 Attacca - “Distantly related to Altior, he's a fine, good-looking individual who was a promising second on his only bumper start. He's ready to begin his hurdling career and has full marks for his schooling.”
1:25 Quick Draw - “He works like a decent horse at home and jumps like one too but hasn't transferred that over fences on course, so we reverted to hurdles. An excellent summer break could help him show what he's capable of. He's been going well and is ready to go.”
2:00 Horn Cape - “He's backward but that isn't surprising given his size. He's a nascent chaser and should come into his own this season, particularly when the ground is soft. He's still a novice over hurdles and we'll try to push on with him.”
3:05 Call Me Lord - “A pleasure to have around. He hasn't won for a while but has been a wonderful horse. He didn't shine over fences and is in a tricky place with his profile over hurdles but I hope he can fire. He loves Sandown.”
Captain Morgs - “He's incredibly consistent. He had a run over fences in June and was disappointing, having schooled well. We suspected a breathing problem, which we've seen to. It'll be a shame if he doesn't go far as a chaser.”
Incredibly consistent maybe, but he’s started favourite 9 times and only won twice.
3:35 Tweed Skirt - “There are so many opportunities over fences for mares, so she goes chasing after winning a decent hurdle at Ascot and then finishing fourth in a Grade 2 at Newbury. She's beautiful, loves her racing and work and seems versatile.”
4:05 Overpriced Mixer - “He won a juvenile hurdle for us, but was lame at Ascot in March 2021 and had been off until his comeback at Plumpton last week. He ran respectably but perhaps blew up two out, although you'd have to think and hope he'll take a step forward from that next time.”
Have to see what the market makes of them nearer the off.
