It gets better as now Lord Levy is arrested . Why when he had turned up at the nick voluntarily ?


Then Blunkett comes on the TV accusing the police of acting theatrically rather than thoroughly , indeed the arrest seems to have been completely unnecessary .


Before the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2004 you could only be arrested if you were reasonably suspected of committing an offence carrying a period of imprisonment of more than five years . One of the reasons for this restriction to prevent the police abusing their powers of arrest - which is exactly what they have done again today


And the irony , who rode roughshod over objections to giving the police unlimited powers of arrest when he was Home Secretary saying they would not be abused
