Does Swirly Chaser remember all the forums he's been to? Does he remember all the usernames he's given himself? Does he remember all the arguments he's tried to start? How far does his intelligence and memory go?

I'm probably of slightly above average intelligence. I struggle with grammar and although I can talk the hind legs off a donkey, I am not the type of person who uses a large vocabulary when doing so.

I am intelligent enough to have passed my exams at school (pretty good results I might add) but stupid in the respect that I did not do anything with them.

I begin the first stage in achieving a degree in law in February when my course with the OU starts.

However, on Saturday afternoon, I staked my entire betting bank on Man Utd to win and lost everything.

I have not had that many usernames on forums (of which I have only been an active member of 4 - this one, TRF, Escorials and Betfair's)

I registered with Ian's forum but have not posted as I couldn't be bothered, it really isn't that important to me to post on a forum, and the only reason I regularly post here is because I have been part of this forum since it began and I like this forum and know it very well.

I do think the way certain others perceive me on here is way off the mark and a bit exaggarrated at times. For instance, when that person called "Jamie" appeared on here (while I was restricted) and some thought he may have been me in disguise, "Jamie" told everyone that his board had been sabotaged at one time and some members on here decided it must have been me.

Thank God for people like Steve Miller, who felt it necessary to point out the paranoia and absurdity of some on here.

I am not sure what Ian's intentions were/are with this thread, and I can only assume he intended to wind me up. It has never worked before and will never work in the future, but keep trying if you like. Whatever makes you happy.

As for using my own name rather than Swirly, well, I decided I wanted to do so and that's all.

As for "all the arguments he's tried to start", this again is an exaggerration and misinterpretation of the facts. Others are able to swear on here (like Walker did yesterday and An Capall does whenever he likes) but when I do it, it seems to be wrong. Others can disagree with someone on here and tell someone they are an idiot for saying such and such, but when I do it, it is deemed as an attack on the person rather than simply me disagreeing with the point in question.

I remember Maurice once writing "I shall break one of my own rules and reply to Swirly", when I posted something about following ratings. That's the sort of respect I have to put up with on here.

How clever am I? I'm clever enough for you Ian, that's all you need to worry about.

I have been a member on here since it was first formed and although I have made a few firm friends have only got as far as speaking on the phone to one person.

Yes he can talk the legs off a donkey !

Hi Ian,
Quick question.

Why is it not illegal to bet on a horse race after the result is known?

I can remember saying on TRF that this kind of cheating had been around for quite a while and was ridiculed over it.

Happens all the time and does nothing for the integrity of the exchanges.

Betting in running (Horse Racing) needs to be stopped.

I speak as I find and hope that having had a few runnings with Phil in the past (and a few of us have), that he continues to apolgise to people when he's been a prat! It makes all the difference when people can say something in the heat of the moment (or have had a few too many), but then have the good grace to apologise once they have had a think about what they have done or said and realise they may have been a bit OTT.

Phil is certainly no angel, but he does grow on you.....when he's doing what he does best.... Talking Horses! B)

Derek,

Gambling and the Law has been a grey area for a while - though hopefully The Gambling Bill will address this.

I suppose an aggrieved punter could contact the police and claim they had been defrauded by an on-course exchange user who exploited a time delay to win off them, but I'm not sure how far the police would take the complaint.

What do you think?

Well, Brian, I didn't leave journalism to get into betting exchanges so punters could try and rip off other punters even more than high-margin bookmakers do.

I bemoaned the punters who try to catch out the unwary by trying to lay everything at 1.01 and back everything at 1000 etc from Day One of my involvement back in 2000 and I similarly bemoan the exciting concept of in-running betting on horse-racing being conducted on a less than level playing field.

Apparently, some at the tracks use the satellite/cable time delay to lay fallers and back the winners and lay the losers of photo-finishes and stewards inquiries after the result has already been called at the course.

Not in the spirit of person-to-person betting, IMO.

Ian,
In running betting (horse Racing),the use of BOTS, should be outlawed. If any one wants to be a Bookmaker thats fine with me.Identify yourself and i will bet with you,has always been my stance.

Surely if you don't agree with betting in-running on a race, just don't participate in it? I'm sure no-one is holding a gun to anyones head forcing them to put their life savings on a horse at 1.01 on the run-in. I'd even go so far as to say that those people who are that daft as to try to make pennies that way by risking thousands are beyond help of most types & would probably lose their money betting on something just as inane were betting on races in-running outlawed.

Of course it is the thick lame and lazy who get ripped off innit.

As more and more of the "thicko's" realize what is happening to their hard urned,(it may take wile mind) the few will be backing and laying amongst themselves.

For myself,i am quite happy not paying a pimps wages. I much prefer the Tote, and other Internet Bookmakers. These, allied to my local,Extremely clean Bookmaker who,by the way does not think that a large percentage of his clients are "bastards" are more than enough to meet my needs.

Who would play no limit three card brag with BrianH Ace high, caller loses.

The answer an Exchange user.(joke) but true. :D

I refer you to my earlier post, Derek - people are being ripped off all the time by betting in-running?? Are you sure about that? Please show me examples of all these people who are forced to gamble thousands to earn pennies at gunpoint & I may understand where you are coming from.

Btw, why do you have to turn everything into personal attacks on people? It really is unnecessary.

Hi Shadow Leader,
can't see anything that can be construed as a personal attack in my post.

Can i take it that your company would consider sending money back to the exchanges during the 5 second window of opportunity?

If i have said something that is untrue i will gladly remove it and apologise to you for saying it.

Just let me know what it is.

Ian, you achieved your law degree in 1984? You are 41? You achieved it when you were 20/21? How long was the course? As far as I have been informed, the course I am undertaking (in 6 different stages) will take 6 years.

I wonder why it is going to take me 6 years then. Maybe it's the way it is arranged with OU.

I need to achieve 360 points to gain the degree. Each course is worth 60 points.

That's 6 years.

2011 :what:
