Following the recent kerfuffle regarding Hunt Ball carrying a Paddy Power emblem (PP) on its back during the Festival and subsequent fines for Anthony Knott and trainer Karl Buke this has appeared on Twitter which seems to suggest the trainer wants rid. Can't see the difference between this and jockeys wearing banners on their breeches or vests.

"Due to events of recent months involving Hunt Ball. I have asked Mr Knott to take the horse away" Karl Burke

Shame if so.

However, the issue of logos and sponsorship in general is tightly regulated for a reason. The Sponsorship Framework for Racehorse Owners allows owners to reclaim VAT on training fees and all other expenses. As a condition the owners must demonstrate they are running their operation as a commercial enterprise and obtain a minimum level of sponsorship. A sponsored horse must then carry a logo on a designated site - paddock sheet, attendant's jacket, silks. There are inspectors at the racecourse to check compliance.

The reason it's inportant is that if HMRC see the system as a tax dodge which is being abused they will remove the concession, increasing the cost of racehorse ownership 20%. This would clearly cause quite a bit of damage to the industry.

All that said, I'm a massive fan of owner and horse, and believe the game needs more characters like him.

Yep - all the Lets Live Racing horses moved on. Plenty boxes going spare in that yard now. Maybe Ferdy should get Hunt Ball!! :D

I thought I just heard them say on TRF Karl Burke has asked the owner not to remove the horse from his yard???????? I was busy doing something else at the time so I stand corrected if I am wrong

Some of Ferdy's staff on FB very emotional at losing these horses

Five horses from Five have run well AND remained sound all year. Myself and the team here are gutted to be saying goodbye to a bunch of horses we think an awful lot of. Sure i'm not going to be alone when I say, the next few days are going to be very sad.

If its just down to results/business/stats so be it (sad that racing seems to have gone that way), I just know what I (we) work for here. Its to have content, fit and healthy horses that are able (and want) to win races. With an end result of a happy and sound older horse, who comes back year after year after year. Rich Lord, Divers and Riguez are all 9yo and fighting fit, I truly wish D McCain the very best of luck and success with all of them, they have been part of the furniture here for many years. Perhaps I'm speaking emotionally here, but genuinely gutted to have to say goodbye to them.

From one of owners

So sorry *****, I'll be putting up something later, wasn't an easy decision but it was one made with the agreement of all the owners in what is a results business.

Sad really but I can see both sides

Kieran Burke rather than Karl Burke, isn't it?

Yup..... Karl is a flat trainer although I'm pretty sure he lost his license for a while and the horses ran in his wife's name... I'm pretty sure there is a Kahlil Burke as well just to confuse the issue further; I might be getting my Burkes mixed up there as well...

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong....

Betting on next trainer of Hunt Ball.I would make it 11/10 each of 2-Nicholls and Pipe.

Nah, I reckon he'll go to bob buckler/anthony honeyball or someone else local.(not that the other two aren't localish, but he won't be flattered so much in a big yard IMO !)

Big fish syndrome....

Could be Kahlil Hare your thinking of;) He and Burke were friends for years they used to go into town to dig up some talent together:lol:

You are right. Kieran remains the only K. Burke to train to appear at a BHA disciplinary enquiry and not get warned off.

Anthony Knott's Hunt Ball is to be sent to the DBS Spring Sale at Doncaster, which takes place from May 14-16.

There was an article about Knott in the RP last year telling how he had chartered a helicopter to Salisbury and had a decent 5 figure bet.
Paddy Power are very keen to offer him corporate hospitality.
Let's join the dots here.

Among the other better known names bound for the Doncaster sales are Doeslessthanme and The Knoxs from Ditcheat, Master of the Hall, Spirit River, Minella Class and Cucumber Run from Seven Barrows and Michael Flips consigned by Andy Turnell.

I also see Ballytrim who was placed in the Thyestes when trained by Willie Mullins, is entered for the sales at the age of 12 after an unsucessful season in points. Surely at his age, retirement should be beckoning rather than a sales ring.
