From Chasers & Hurdlers 2004/5:

"Apocalyptic warnings that a hunting ban would sound the death knell for point-to-pointing look like proving wide of the mark. Over two hundred fixtures have been scheduled for 2006."

Not at all - whatever the rights and wrongs of the hunting ban I never saw point-to-point racing being endangered and it appears that the wizards of Halifax share those views.

The facts being that no-one will know for a good few years whether the hunting ban has affected Point-to-Pointing - the reality is that it will take a couple of seasons to wind down if it is going to. At the moment every effort is being put into keeping the hunts/point-to-points going as per normal but a lot of packs can't see themselves surviving even to the end of this hunting season. We are right at the beginning of a hunting ban remember - the ban didn't come into effect until the end of the previous season. No-one knows how/whether the hunts will survive through this season so if there are any changes to be seen to the P-t-P fixture list they were realistically only going to be seen in the 2007 fixture list. We are in unknown territory now - the picture should be clearer at the end of this hunting season.

I wouldn't be too quick to say "I told you so" - give it a fair crack of the whip & come back & say it again in 3/4 years time if Point-to-Pointing is indeed still going strong.

My friends enjoyed meeting up with their hunt at 6.30am on Saturday  Most people were still in bed

We have been hunting 4 days a week for the last 3 weeks, 6am to start but now 6.30am - the mornings have been fantastic and life after the ban is good good good!!!!! ;) ;) Morale is strong and we are defiant!!

I doubt it Kri - it's cubbing season, hence the early starts. I would imagine that they are legally hunting by taking a pair of hounds to flush out the quarry before shooting it. All perfectly legal. Yet the Anti's think they have won - sorry, I was under the misguided apprehension that the principles behind outlawing hunting were to protect the "sweet, fluffy 'ickle fox". Considering that foxes are still being hunted & killed I see that as a somewhat hollow victory - and more than anything it proves that the Anti's agenda for banning hunting had nothing whatsoever to do with wanting to protect the fox. Hmm, interesting that - or is it?
