At the Start
Thought you might like to read this, and I would not believe it unless I had seen it myself.
Last Saturday morning, at about 07:15 I was driving along Wilmslow road in Manchester adjacent to Platts Field Park approaching 'the curry mile'.
There was a junction ahead with a pedestrian crossing. The lights turned red so I pulled up. I am used to driving up this road and because of various bus priorities the lights do tend to change slowly. So I settled down for the expected wait.
On the opposite pavement two ducks, one highly coloured and the other very drab, appeared from a hedge.
The ducks proceeded to walk along the path for about 25 yards to, I kid you not, the pedestrian crossing. They crossed at the crossing point in front of me even making the effort to follow the dog-leg of the island in the middle of the road.
Throughout this episode the drabber of the two ducks kept dawdling and the brighter coloured one kept muttering at her.
I must admit to being a bit concerned that the lights would change while they were crossing because a few cars had pulled up behind and I feared some impatient horn blowing.
Anyway ducks crossed safely but immediately my attention was further taken by two grey squirrels fighting over a 'macdonalds' burger carton.
The lights changed and I drove away drawing parallels in human society.
