Whenever they need access the engineer chaps my door and asks permission. Are they just being polite or do I actually have the right to refuse them? They probably could access it from a neighbour's garden but would still have to enter my "air space?" to get at it. There is also a slab at the bottom of the pole with a load of wires under it.

The reason I ask is, they have supposedly upgraded my broadband to 8mbps. When they first did so I was getting around 4. This has now slipped to between 2.5 and 3.6. After being messed around by their tech support for 8 weeks I was told that at their end the line was showing 7.6 mbps and they refused to check it out saying it was probably something my end (I was given some drivel about radiators). So, can I tell them that there'll be no access to the pole until they get it sorted?

Good luck with any conflict with BT, in my experience they are a bunch of total tossers.

I have taken all my business elsewhere and I would advise you to do the same.

Answer the door (er, just a point - how do they 'chap' your door, HT?) with a filthy old shirt smeared with what looks like fresh blood, a few smears on your face, and a dripping hatchet in your hand. Do your best 'Here's Johneeeee' impression and say, "Hullllllooo there. You're a lot more/a lot less meaty than I expected... " . This may put them off for a while, though there's no guaranteeing folks' preferences these days.

So far, chop down the pole, shoot the engineer while soaked in blood screaming "Here's Johneeee". I only want my broadband fixed.

This is BT though, HT. This may prove to be easier than getting the broadband fixed.

Tom, when I was trying to get money back from BT that had been incorrectly taken from my bank I sent 14 emails, all of which were answered by seperate people. i also made 5 phone calls and ended up printing all of the emails off and sending them to 3 different addresses i found for BT. It took 3 months to get the money back and a lot of frustration. It is practically impossible to find someone to accept responsibility for any problems.

Good luck
