I love snow at Christmas. It dawned on me today that I usually put up the tree while watching the Tripleprint meeting on TV so I checked around and found this site which forecasts the chances of a white Christmas. I reckon it's pretty promising!

(Hope the link works. How do yous guys change the wording on links?))

A 20% chance of seeing snow in Berkshire, but a 30% chance if I am up in London on Christmas Day!

 Good luck, Paul!

As if to illustrate how inaccurate long-range forecasting is, here's another 'respected' source's view:
We currently still expect a green Christmas for most of the UK. Mild air pumping up from the south west is likely to bring dull and overcast conditions for much of the UK on Christmas day. There may be some brighter spells in south eastern areas during the afternoon in particular.

Still, yet another site is at least forecasting moderate snow for South Lanarkshire next weekend - while I'm dan saaf.

Don't base any bets on those forecasts! Statistically you need at least 14/1 if betting on the main white Christmas bet - that snow will fall on the Air Ministry roof in London.

We can often get bets up here that it will snow on the roof of the Glasgow weather centre. Usually more likely than in London, but I wouldn't normally bet at single figure odds anyway.

I just like white Christmases.
:shy:

Hate to contradict you Brian - it's generally the London Weather Centre that has to have a measurable amount of snow as confirmed by the Met Office. Relkeel will confirm that we spent hours & hours last year trying to get that answer out of the Met Office!! Apart from anything else, we decided that the term a measurable amount of snow was a complete nonsense, as any amount is a measure!! Some firms (usually Hills) have different books for different areas of the country too.

I think it was 3 years ago that the bookies in brum had a problem as it snowed here but not in London.

No to mention that they must have had a load of irate punters in their shops! To be honest, all bookies get them - very few of the punters actually check the rules before they place their bets. I had to deal with a bloke who was really hacked off last year as he had a bet with the company I was with that it would snow (Met Office confirmed it didn't) & a bet with another firm that it wouldn't snow & they had paid out on it as having snowed! It was really quite amusing at the time, imagine having tirades of abuse shouted at you down the phone whilst having an argument about whether it had snowed or not! Funny thing was that he hadn't checked the rules of either firm, they both had different locations as to where the snow had fallen so this prat had lost all of his stake after thinking he was being cute & getting one over on the bookies! It was a few hundred quid too!!!

I seen it deemed as a flake of snow but who is going to watch for this to fall???? so @ what depth is the bet settled (excuse the pun  )................

ABERDEEN AND CARDIFF are joint favs @ 7-2...................

It has to be an amount of snow deemd by the Met Office to be recorded as snow having fallen. Certainly one flake wouldn't be enough!

They did indeed have a load of irate punters there on Boxing Day. I only went in to have a bet on the King George and had to fight my way through the chavs.
As the snow in brum comes down a dirty grey/brown anyway, should it count ? I think not!!

Just got back from Bamford and the fields were covered with snow when we got there. It didnt snow all weekend but it was so cold the snow was still there 3 days later!

The Met Office always used to measure on the Air Ministry roof. I'm not even sure that there is such a physical place as "The London Weather Centre" as I think that it's just an intangible part of the Meteorological Office.

I don't know about Bamford, but we've had snow in Banstead - though it didn't settle.

Just found it Brian!

It's in The Peak District unless there is more than one Bamford in the UK!

We had beautiful, sunny, crisp weather on Friday and Saturday but it's been miserable today. Cold and grey and wet.

Yes Kathy, in the Peak District. I was on a residential staying on some farm, very nice place. Very erm......local though!!!

Near Hathersage . Having been for lunch today in Froggatt it was terrible weather fog with about five yards visibility - thickish snow .

Started to warm up noticeably though this afternoon and all the snow has gone here in Yorkshire
