"Former Kenmare Resources director Donal Kinsella awarded £8.5m in 'naked sleepwalking' libel trial
A former mining director who appeared naked at a female colleague's door while sleepwalking has won a €10m (£8.5m) libel payment from his former employer."

If it had been me it would have been a posthumous award as my wife would never believe a story like that. More likely I'd have been nicked for about a dozen offences.

I'd be inclined to believe him being an occasional sleepwalker myself and having narrowly escaped similar episodes!

The comments are very interesting, too. An absurdly big pay-out for him - he's 67 and a director with no doubt an enormous salary and a monster pension to follow (he's clearly not ready to retire at 65!). I'd agree with the comments about wearing jim-jams, though, if you know you're prone to ramble at night and sleep at home in the buff. Didn't he and his assistant stay in a hotel with door peepholes, though? One view and, er, I don't think I'd be opening my door two more times! Put it away, guv, put it awayyy!

I think it's a disgraceful decision. There is a difference between sleep walking and alcohol induced sleep walking. It happens to a lot of people. People locking themselves out of their hotel room etc. If you go to a womans door three times in a night after alcohol you are not sleep walking you are looking for your hole.

I did it once. I walked from my bedroom to the toilet and back balls naked. I walked past the girl who sharing the house with three of us. I half remembered the following day and she saw no harm in it. Now had I gone to her door it would have been unacceptable and a different story.

Painkillers and alcohol now seems to be a valid excuse to do whatever you want because you have "no" memory. Here is another recent example:

One of the guys who was in Cheltenham with me last weekend went on a boozy weekend in Galway 2 years ago.One of his mates left their shared hotel bedroom and went to a random room and a man let him in.
Morning time arrived and basically they woke up at the same time and a who the fuck are you conversation occured. The guy I know had to borrow a towel to cover himself to get back to his bedroom as he was bollock naked.Married man with 3 children.

I only skimmed the article in the first place and ok, it does look very improbable and a sotry hashed up as an excuse. I have, however, been in dodgy situations myself sleepwalking hence my original comment!

As for the "alcohol and painkillers" bullshit - Nurofen Plus??????!!

If you are a "known sleepwalker" does it give you the right to do whatever you want when apparently asleep? If the same principals applied to a known sex offender.

If all known sex offenders did was walk around in their birthday suit the world would be a better place.

Like I said before.

Clearly the jury did not believe that he went to her door three times or am I missing something

Still asking ?

But wasn't there a case where a man pleaded guilty to killing his wife while in a sleep state, and got off scot free? Not that long ago, either. I suppose what you do is to pretend to sleepwalk and do weird things like mow your lawn, take your dog for a walk, and say you have no memory. A year or two later, the wife's life insurance's well upped, and oh, no! I've only gone and unknowingly strangled her!
