Irish claiming races

I see another claiming race in Tramore today. They appear nearly every week through the Summer in Ireland and I cannot remember too many horses being claimed out of them. I know a David Wachman horse was claimed out of Killarney and ran well at Galway but unlike the UK, the prices they put on them are quite high. The winner of the claimer last week, Anna Montana, could have run in the next race, a handicap, for the same money which seems odd too. You'd think a claimer would be lower prizemoney given that you are allowed fix your own handicap mark and therefore it should be easier to win. I just don't see the point of them in Ireland as there isn't a market for the horses. Anyone got any thoughts or have the stats for horses claimed?
