I've lost any real understanding and confidence in the economy, banks etc.

Sadly, I see so many people struggling, demonstrations etc and then read that RBS is able to repay its emergency loan of 163 BILLION pounds almost willy-nilly.

How can a bank do this, don't tell me its by good housekeeping or by increasing its surcharges.

£163 billion amounts to perhaps £10,000 for every UK family and they have definitely not had that from me.

I was even considering converting any savings into gold this morning until I realised I couldn't afford 1.5 ounces.

Its because it wasnt exactly a loan as such. It was a form of guarantee. Bit boring to go into at length but thats maybe easiest way of looking at it

I think the BBC news got things spot on tonight with the opening line:

'The austerity plans are at risk and its all thanks to the voters'

Democracy is nothing if not at fault.

Sorry, Walsworth, just my cynicism.

It seems the media are hell bent on attaching blame and I found humour in that the 'all healing' austerity medicine should be deemed more important than democratic choice.
