Roughly two weeks ago if I calculate correctly' Israeli bombers hit a Syrian facility. Whilst the nature of the situation in the area means that there are myriad versions of what happened, more than one says that the Izzies hit at a nuclear plant not long after nuclear material was delivered from North Korea.

If that were not scary enough then the reported movements of elements of the US naval forces give some credence to stories that the Septics are getting ready to attack Iranian facilties in an attempt to prevent them developing a full nuclear capacity. When one also considers that the Fench Foreign Minister reportedly stated that " 'we' should prepare for war with Iran", then are we about to start another round of escalation in the Middle East? Since our lot aren't doing too well in the current round I find it deeply disturbing.

This is a major news story and only now is it starting to get the press coverage it merits. Now that's more like a conspiracy.

If i was Isreali i would expect my country to do everything possible to defend itself against the potential attackers

Reading The Islamist by Ed hussein, he mentioned his time teaching in Syria. A fine experience..excpet for the fact that Hitler was on the curriculum as a heroic 20th century figure

Not a reason to attack but.....

Little secret that many in the surrounding region would not just like to see israel "wiped out" (iran's statement), indulge themselves in holocaust denial (everywhere) but also believe in the genocide of all jews worldwide (Nasrallah of Hezbollah amongset many others)

A lot dont to...but can you imagine the scenario? Can you imagine nuclear weapons in the hands of those (and this will happen at some stage) who believ it is allahs will to exterminate a race?

Proof of cooperation between Iran and Syria in the proliferation and development of weapons of mass destruction was brought to light Monday in a Jane's Defence Weekly report that dozens of Iranian engineers and 15 Syrian officers were killed in a July 23 accident in Syria.

According to the report, cited by Channel 10, the joint Syrian-Iranian team was attempting to mount a chemical warhead on a Scud missile when the explosion occurred, spreading lethal chemical agents, including sarin nerve gas.

Reports of the accident were circulated at the time; however, no details were released by the Syrian government, and there were no hints of an Iranian connection.

The report comes on the heels of criticism leveled by the Syrians at the United States, accusing it of spreading "false" claims of Syrian nuclear activity and cooperation with North Korea to excuse an alleged Israeli air incursion over the country this month.

According to globalsecurity.org, Syria is not a signatory of either the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), - an international agreement banning the production, stockpiling or use of chemical weapons - or the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).

Syria began developing chemical weapons in 1973, just before the Yom Kipper War. Globalsecurity.org cites the country as having one of the most advanced chemical weapons programs in the Middle East.

This is all over the net...

Janes is obviously a credible source

and this as just emerged on the news lines........................

French Foreign Minister, Bernard Kouchner has warned that the world may have to prepare for war if Iran goes ahead with its nuclear programme.

If Iran refuses to put a halt to its nuclear programme, there are huge possibilities of a war…

Must admit...France are very very beligerent here. Suspect even the americans are taken aback by some of this

Sarkozy's dislike and impatience (a reason why he picked up votes i would suggest) with the muslim world seems to be coming to the fore and i suspect that this will increasingly be the trend across the west from now on

Apart from those that believe in genocide I have always found it impossible to take one side in the Arab/Israel situation. For me me it's one of those 'wouldn't start from here' scenarios. I can understand and often sympathise with actions or reactions by both sides which makes it even more scary when tension builds in the area.

Now I know that you're touchy about these things, so please don't think that I'm shooting the messenger. But........

Have a look at the linky Merlin has provided, and then have a look at the actual text of the Quatrains alledgedly translated.

Pour la chaleur solitaire sus la mer,
De Negrepont les poissons demy cuits:
Les habitans viendront entamer,
Quand Rhod & Gennes leur faudra le biscuit.

Because of the solar heat on the sea
Of Euboea the fishes half cooked:
The inhabitants will come to cut them,
When the biscuit will fail Rhodes and Genoa.

Depuis Monach iusqu'aupres de Sicille,
Toute la plage demourra desolee:
Il n'y aura fauxbourgs, cité, ne ville,
Que par Barbares pillee soit & vollee.

From Monaco to near Sicily
The entire coast will remain desolated:
There will remain there no suburb, city or town
Not pillaged and robbed by the Barbarians.
