There was an absolutely priceless attempt at crime in Gibraltar the day before yesterday, a place renowned for having a very low crime rate. This can most probably be explained by the fact that Gib is a very small peninsular and there isn't very far to run and the border can simply be closed - any crim with half a brain cell can realise that. A bunch of four locals demonstrated to the country that they struggled to find one brain to share between them on Tuesday when they carried out an armed robbery. They robbed a small corner shop around two blocks away from my flat, the type of shop of which there are at least 100 others in Gib, armed with a spear gun, a harpoon and a pair of shears (don't ask!!!!!). The amazingly dim-witted lot then made their quick getaway.........legging it to a flat in the same block, two floors above the shop!!! Next came a two hour stand off with police in riot gear - talk about a joke, 4 halfwits armed with a pair of shears, a harpoon & a spear gun against the Royal Gibraltar Police's finest ( 
) decked out in riot gear and equipped with an armed response vehicle. As no-one was allowed to leave or enter the block of flats a large crowd built up, with cheers & catcalls going up when the wannabe crims were paraded out in cuffs. The unconfirmed amount robbed was the princely sum of €5000 - you just couldn't make it up - it's the sort of thing you'd expect to see in a Carry On film! It's well worth living here for the daily entertainment value it provides, I can tell you! :lol:
