Hi all.

I'm asking this question in the racing forum because it is to do with racing and I'm hoping there might be an answer out there...

A lot of my own ratings stuff, in terms of presentation, is pretty labour intensive so I was wondering (particularly with the GN on the horizon) if there is a short-cut available to me.

Firstly, below is a table of a typical race I'd do. (It's the top 10 or so ratings in the Betfair Hurdle.) The MON column is my own ratings adjusted to 12-0. I was wondering if there is a way of getting the Word doc to calculate the adjusted ratings automatically if I just typed in my master rating.

Obviously it would need some kind of formula that calculated the adjustment and it would need to recognise imperial weights.

NWB 3.15 BETFAIR HURDLE (PREMIER HANDICAP)

Another thing I could do with is an automatic calculation of the over-round in the betting column.

Any help or advice is duly thanked in advance.

Word is not your friend when it comes to doing calculations. You'd be better off with Excel for what you are describing.

The difficulty lies in getting your data from word into excel - sometimes it will just paste in easily - most times it gets a bit f'd up and requires what I refer to as "jiggery-pokery" to get it doing what you want. The format of the betting odds would probably need changed to decimals as well.

Email me one of your word docs and I'll play about with it and see how easy it is to wrangle it.

No info, just for an interest

Simmo is right Word is awful, I use Excel for this type of calculation but I am far from an expert.

I don't know enough about Excel to be comfortable using it.

I got some Inset on it about 30 years ago but never had to use it in anger, so to speak.

I also need to print my stuff on to A4 paper so anything that extends in width beyond landscape A4 won't work for me.

At this point I want to acknowledge the huge assistance of wilsonl in coming up with the programme that allows me to transfer the RP cards to Excel, which I then amend slightly before transferring to Word for further editing and printing. Without that I'd probably have given up any serious study altogether.
