Churchtown Historical and Heritage Society are celebrating the life of Jack Moylan (1898-1949), Irish Champion Flat Jockey in 1926 on Saturday 27 July at 3pm in Churchtown village. Raised locally in Egmont, he was apprenticed to English trainer P F Hartigan. A cavalryman in France in WWI, he returned to Ireland and was Champion Flat Jockey in 1926, winning 7 Classics including a dead heat in 1944 Irish 2000 Gns with son-in-law Jimmy Eddery, father of Pat.
He rode Solford for Dan o Brien, father of MV, to win 1938 Irish Cambridgeshire.
Equally adept over fences, he rode Fly Mask to finish 2nd in 1924 Grand National and 3rd in 1925 GN.
Churchtown village was where M.V.O Brien began his training career.
A statue to Nijinsky and Lester Piggott grace the village cross roads.
Saturday could be an informative and interesting afternoon for anyone interested in attending. The King George VI and QE II Stakes will not be missed either.
Churchtown is signposted from N20 Cork -Limerick road North West of Buttevant.
