Sadly she has passed away today at 42 years of age after battling with complications from surgery due to breast cancer again.

She and husband, former Australian test cricketer Glenn McGrath, had founded the McGrath Foundation which supported and aimed to place breast cancer nurses in hospitals in rural and regional areas of Australia.

She is survived by her husband and two children, James 8 and Holly 6.

That would explain why the cricket team had taken to using pink grips on their bats. I knew it was to promote breast cancer awareness but never made the connection to Jane McGrath. Very sad

For a woman so young, she really did suffer.

I believe she was first diagnosed at the age of 31 back in late 1996 with breast cancer. Then after being in remission for a very short time, felt a twinge in her hip and was then diagnosed with cancer of the hip. In 2006, after having been through the wars and back, she was found to have an inoperable brain tumour.

That brain tumour of course was eventually removed, and all looked good as she went back into remission again.

Unfortunately the cancer came back some time earlier this year a lot more invasive and aggressive. I did't realise it had come back either.

One of the tv channels showed an old interview of her and Glenn from about 12 months ago. The most amazing thing she said was that cancer actually had made her a happier and better person.

I can definitely say it changes you as a person. My mother was diagnosed last year with bowel and lymph node cancer. It was a 50/50 situation, but she managed to survive. Then unfortunately 3 weeks ago after just over a month in remission she was diagnosed with progressive cancer of the ovaries. She underwent a full hysterectomy, and being the fighter she is, came home within 4 days to recover. We were told it would take at least a minimum of 15 days.

I just hope our grandchildren in many years time can look and reflect back on cancer like we now look and reflect back on polio or small pox.

Very sad news

Unfortunately i know more about the disease that i would want to and knowing how it was for her, it was always looking bleak
