He is hopeless on Flat racing and always has been - his retirement is not a sadness to me .
 
He can possibly be sloppy on form and aspects such as time but answer is to shrug shoulders and listen to the areas where he is decent. Assessing the look and nature of a horse is one and one where the anoraks would struggle

I like him enough. Has a personality and some wit.

Fair enough - in which case leave him in the paddock and don't ask him to review the race !
 
Ardross...Should really have been his role...agreed..

Doesnt compare well with the race reviews of Mellish.... or Jonathon whatsisname, which are admittedly top drawer
 
Francome is very good when it comes to a horses strengths and weaknesses as a jumper-also which horses are looking in good condition.I would take a lot of what he says with a pinch of salt but he does come out with the occasional gem.I suppose even Nick Mordin comes out with the occasional gem.
