"The Phoenix" magazine (an Irish satirical mag) are holding this competition in memory of John Martin, a racing journalist who died earlier this year.
Open to everybody, submissions of up to 600 words with the opening line
" When it comes to racing in Ireland, the odds are that..."
It can refer to horse or dog racing.
Submissions to made no later than July 20 by email to
competition@thephoenix.ie

A lovely fella who went too soon and too suddenly.

As well as labouring tirelessly on behalf of punters interests with regard to bookmakers, he was also a great friend of the Park Coursing community and reported intelligently and knowingly on the sport for many years.

R.I.P., John Martin.
