Jonathan Edwards, the former olympic triple=jump champion and high-file christian, has resigned from The BBC's songs of praise after reportedly suffering a crisis of faith. No surpprises there then. 
I attended a catholic boy's church school, the school priest told us lads this IS the way it was/is, you lads BELIEVE it, Oh no, not myself, I think he hated me, for what,? because I questioned his teachings, I once gave him my interpretation of Jesus Christ.
A normal man, who was knowledgeable with regards to plants, herbs, flowers etc, because of this he knew of remedies for certain illnesses and ailments, alternative medicine, well, what other type was there? he was chilled out, propably smoked a bit of pot, he had normal intimate relationships, Mary Magdeline etc, he was a rebel, the rock n' roll icon of the time period, told the Romans to f**k themselves, Jesus Christ, a hippy, a rebel, turning water in to wine, Nah, he knew the skill of how to make wine.
The priest caned me 6 times for my free speach, it was frowned upon by the teachers who thought my questionable attitude refreshing, they must have spoke to the headmaster, the priest never caned me ever again, Religion,even from a church school, I left with more questions than answers, the teachers on the other hand I got along with famously, they were great, I thank them for my educational foundation.

Edward's father is a vicar. All loving children are desperate for their parents approval.
That is why (I percieve) We subconsciously go along with our parents beliefs, even into our 40's. And then one day, out of a clear blue sky, it suddenly strikes some people that this religion stuff is nonsense and that life makes far more sense if you don't try to make it fit some divine plan.
The faithful can seriously damage their brains trying to figure out why a so called loving almighty gives us childhood cancer, or malaria, or Hurricane Katrina.
