I love this meeting although I don't agree with them moving it to the Saturday, it clashes with the John Smiths Cup and the Super Sprint card at Newbury. Ridiculous given there are plenty of barren Saturdays in July and August.

Anyway, that aside, this doesn't look a bad renewal. Best prices are below:

Bated Breath 3/1
Excelebration 13/2
Society Rock 8/1
Sepoy 14/1
Hoof It 14/1
Power 14/1
Ortensia 16/1
Libranno 16/1
Wizz Kid 16/1

Bated Breath obviously the most likely winner but 3/1? No thanks.

Excelebration is very interesting given the likely cut in the ground and I am gutted I missed the 8/1 yesterday. If by a miracle, the ground is quicker then 16/1 about Ortensia would be massive but it's looking unlikely.

The one I like at a massive price is Angels Will Fall at 33/1 if she runs. She ran a very quick time at Ayr and looked like she was going to progress further that day. She'll handle cut and I'd rather side with her than the usual crowd of Society Rock/Hoof It and company.

Probably should have called this July Festival if we don't want two threads?

If Golden Lilac runs in the Falmouth then 3/1 is going to look huge!

Very few tracks drain off as quickly as Newmarket. It could rain buckets up to mid-week and still be firm here by Saturday with sunny breezy weather. If it does come up soft it will need a horse that gets every inch of the six furlong trip.

If anyone wants an on the spot appraisal of the ground I will happily nip up to the July course and walk it on the morning of the race and report back.

Angels Will Fall would be a machine if only she'd learn to settle. Better signs on that front at Ayr, but the spectre of Michael Hills reclaiming the ride is too horrible to contemplate.

very kind offer..thanks

Got to be some serious doubts whether Hoof It is the same horse as last season based on the evidence of his two runs this season? Think that is why his odds are inflated to the level they are, rather than his ability being in doubt.

Society Rock at 8/1 looks fair to me. Conditions likely to be in his favour.

That's probably where my pin money will go too. Ortensia is a whopping price for a horse that has been travelled across the world, but, along with Hoof It, I am not convinced Newmarket's stiff six furlong test will suit them. (Where's the undecided emoticon? :))

Hoof It's last run is easily forgiven DJ, as he wouldn't stay 7f on roller-skates, and it was no more than look-see at the July course.
His previous run was his 3rd below par performance on loose ground at York, and (imo) may owe much to the lack of traction caused by being unshod at the rear.
