Dead

[it will be confirmed soon, I believe]

Apparently was effectively dead on Saturday night but they've managed to keep her alive this long.

Remarkable story.....absolutely shocking

I didn't have a clue who she was until I was on the Sindo site looking for news on the Ireland manager. How long has/had she been 'famous' for?

Irish glamour model. Has been in a critical condition over the weekend since been taken seriously ill after celebrating her birthday, with no real details of exactly what happened to her (but plenty of implications that it was drug-related).

I find this story extremely disturbing, Bobbyjo. Don't get me wrong, I don't read the Sindo and would turn off the Channel if she was anywhere near it. But a beautiful young woman...dreadful stuff.

It hasn't been relayed, but if you listen to what happened to the young man from Waterford whose death was announced today you shouldn't be too far away.

Much and all that the media circus, which would inevatbly swing into action should she pull through, be difficult to bear, you would gladly tolerate it in these circumstances. Age 24, scary stuff.

It is frightening an capall...

More pertinently, it will be interesting to hear the revulsion at this death. An Capall is absolutely right in what he incinuates....what's more interesting is that last Thursday night, at Katy's 24th birthday party, she was engaging in similar activities with a number of high profile media/showbiz types who must now be feeling somewhat sheepish/fortunate etc etc...

There's no doubting that she is from the coke generation and I wonder what the impact of this will be.

Don't get me wrong An Capall, my opinion of her would be the same. When I heard of the initial incident I must admit to thinking or fearing that this was some sort of stunt or other such is her track record. But, ultimately, she was a monster created by the media....and within eight months she is on her deathbed...after a day or two where she was believed to be upset at certain media coverage of said party.

There's no doubting she was a mixed up girl in her own way but she was young, beautiful and had everything to live for. That she should go so suddenly should be a wake-up call to many people who flirt with such danger without knowing it. I hope some sort of lesson is learned from it.

Hope you guys are wrong about her dieing - terrible waste of the life of such a young woman if it is.

Some updated only an hour ago still saying she's in a serious condition so fingers crossed.

Five to six heart attacks....understood discussion over organs etc is holding the inevitable up.

Don't mean to be callous by discussing things so flippantly. It is horrible and has or will rock the incestuous Irish social scene to its absolute core

Just released..

Katy passed away in here sister's arms
06/12/2007 - 19:25:48

It has been confirmed in a statement issued this evening by model Katy French's family that the model passed away peacefully in the arms of her sister Jill and alongside her parents earlier this evening.

The family said they had been overwhelmed by the letters, blessings, gifts and prayers from people all over the country during Katy's time in hospital.

"It gave us strength and helped Katy so much. Although we did not get our yearned for miracle, all the expressions of love you sent her were powerfully healing in different ways," the statement said.

French celebrated her 24th birthday, along with a host of celebrity and media friends, only last Thursday in Dublin's Krystle nightspot.

Very sad :(

I don't think I can ever remember such a dramatic rise and fall...

This time last week that party was just getting underway; I can scarcely believe it.

She was extremely upset by an article written in a newspaper at the weekend which slaughtered the coverage surrounding her party and commented that the only people in attendance seemed to be media types rather than friends. It was remarkably vicious stuff but then that's sometimes what goes with the media glare - I bet the writer feels like ###### now though.

Truly shocking stuff..

You'd think this would be a wake-up call to Generation Coke, but I'm certainly not holding my breath..

Obviously we all regret her passing, and the young man in Waterford whose death has parity of esteem.

BUT LETS BE CAREFUL. Those listening to Irish radio this morning will notice a swelling of Lady Di syndrome, egged on by Gerry Ryan and others. Lets try stop this shite now ffs.

Possibly An though I don't think we'll have 10 year exhibition that's come with the death of Diana.

We can't change the past only the future and hopefully people in the media (and the fashion industry) will learn something from Katy's death.

In fairness An and others, there is a queue of people lining up to say.....why is this death being taken more seriously etc

Despite that, ireland.com, independent.ie and other sites etc are recording record hits to stories about her death. Rightly or wrongly, the shock factor is making this a national incident....its churlish to complain about it. Similarly to the tragic Brian Murphy case, we are fascinated by the demise of the wealthy. We expect it of lesser brethren, for right or for wrong

this generation coke has been going on since the early 90's though. its people in all walks of life not just models/music people. theres only two ways it will pass, a new drug comes on the scene. or the price goes through the roof & people cant afford it. but then one coudl lead to all sorts of other problems. how else do we think the craze coudl be stopped?

Looks that way alright JFT..

Anyone who thinks cocaine is confined to the "rich and famous" should spend a night in Temple bar btw (or a day at the Galway Races).. shocking stuff..

Would agree with Bobbyjo though that it is only natural for this to generate media attention (though I'm not even going to bother looking at this sunday's sindo headline).. as I said before, I have my doubts as to whether this will serve as a wake-up call and would tend more to agree with JFT's pessimism..
